I finished my dreaded 7 consecutive days of working at the hospital.  I don't like putting my ward weeks back to back with my weekend calls... but it just happened that way.

After finishing rounds and notes today, I just wanted to "celebrate" even though I still had 3 more hours of being "oncall."

Of course, I got paged twice during lunch. The nurse from the transfer center made a comment: oh wow, we are keeping you busy, Dr. D. 

I replied: I am only on call until 4p so I am counting down the minutes. 

 

 So this is how I look like answering pages... so serious. 

or is it because it's sunny and I was not wearing my sunglasses?

I am either serious or squinting because it's bright or  constipated.

 

  

   

 

The children ran a few laps... They needed to burn some energy. 

  

 

Today's letter of St. Paul to the Romans is just what I needed to hear.

... we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,  and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Romans 5:3-5 ESV

Life is not all peaches and roses. During challenging weeks,  I get reminded that my suffering is NOT for nothing.

 

4p came and I forwarded the consult pager. whew.
I get to hang up that white coat and play with my babies.
