why i love summer

Girls' rompers, exact ones Isabel's sandals, c/o FP Lucy's saltwater sandals, via eBay 1. the sun, long days spent outside I love sunny days! Sunny days lift up my mood.  There's still daylight around 930p in June/July and I love that. 2.  Kids are out of school No rush to get out of the house. No rush to go to bed (hello  sunset at 9:45p). My extended family visits us. 3. the beach
Sun, sand and water. That's my type of vacation!
When I think of summer, I think of the beach. Time to enjoy, relax, head to the lake/gulf/ocean (depending on vacation days we can get).

Living in Indy limits us to the beauty and mountains of the west coast. We also don't have a beach.

We make do with what we have. Indy is opening more trails and promoting its places to walk, run and bike.

We are not, by no means, hikers. My children and husband would want to be outdoors more but with my allergies, I don't go out as much as I want to during spring.  As soon as the trees are done pollinating and blooming, then I am all set to get some sun.

st. paddy's parade

What a gorgeous day for a parade! I have never been to any parades downtown.  I have never watched an Indy 500 parade... no veterans day parade... no st. patrick's day parade...  nada for this homebuddy.

So to march on a parade -- that's something to remember!

I was stressed out just thinking of pushing a stroller and carrying a baby and "chaperoning".  Will I ever be able to contain Sebastian? He's at the this stage of wanting his independence. Will he run away from me while Lucy is fussing?

The toddler tantrum on the way to the assembly was something I'd like to forget... He stripped off his clothes before we left the house. The only thing green on him are his socks.  He did not want to sit in the stroller once we parked. He did not want his hoodie or blanket. It was a little chilly in the shade.

Thankfully, Bastian's guardian angel and St. Patrick interceded for us. Bastian cooperated once we joined the group. He stayed in the stroller! I did not drop the baby. Lucy did not fuss or have a poopie explosion. I even fed her at the sidewalk {Kathryn will be proud!}

I wish I was able to capture Lucy waving at the crowd. It was very precious.

Happy St. Paddy's Day.
As for me, it's past 5p ~ I think I am going to open that wine bottle.

windy date night

pink links are affiliate links... it does not cost you anything extra if you use my links and purchase the items. in fact some are on-sale!  :) happy shopping!

Hubs and I are such lovers of routines.. we always go to the same places for date night. I suggest a downtown place and he sometimes agree... but most of the time, he just does not want to battle the downtown traffic. We don't even live that far from downtown.

A couple of weeks ago was Devour Downtown. Again, i looked at other places hoping to try some new restaurants. But when we saw the awesome price at the Tapas place, we made our reservations there.... again lovers of routines. we always go to the Tapas place during devour downtown.

I have  been wanting to wear this dress after wearing it for my birthday. My belly is still visible but so much smaller, eh? Lucky you, it's still available in selected sizes for only $12!

Well, let's backtrack. I did wear this dress already postpartum but it rained... I did not get my OOTD photos taken.

Then i wore this on FriDate, and it stormed again. weird. Let's call it the rainmaker dress.
it was a windy night. one would think we were in Chicago.

Prayer request: I go back to work today. I hope the transition process goes smoothly....

one of the cool things about Indy

We might not have the most number of eateries per capita (like SF) but we do have some jewels in this city. Hubs and I frequent our favorite spots for date night. We added another spot in our list!

We finally made it to Napolese for Derrick's birthday. It is an artisanal pizzeria or how I described it to my mom - they offer FANCY pizza. They use organic food sourced locally. It's great!

Derrick and I shared the salad special. It had carrots, pancetta, pecans, corn, white cheddar and berry vinaigrette in a bed of arugula. He agreed that it was really tasty. He's the guy who does not care much for arugula or other dressings. He always orders the Caesar calad. So I am glad he enjoyed the salad I chose. It was his birthday after all.

Now for the pizza. He ordered his usual meat lover type of pizza. It was a tough decision for me. Margherita pizza or a variation of the margherita pizza or something totally different. I went with something totally different and ordered the smoked salmon pizza with capers and leeks -- so yummy! It did not disappoint.

The "single serve" pizza is actually "single entree" meant to be shared. We took half of our pizzas home and the left overs were delicious. Derrick tried a slice of my smoked salmon and loved it.

^^Mom and Pops on the way to dinner.

Here's the yummy salad.

And our pizzas....

The birthday boy.

Sorry these are all iphone photos... I could spend time editing them... or not.
If you are ever in Indy, visit this place, alright?

Babies, nfp and saving lives {7qt}

1. My Sebastian is 10 months old!
What?
Seriously?!
He is not crawling yet. He gets places by scooting. I thought he will be pulling up to stand now. But he's such a content baby. Just chilling on the floor and waiting to be picked up or pulled up to stand.

He forgot his signs. He was doing so well until he got an ear infection. His way of communication was replaced by fussiness and crying. I am hoping he will use his 'milk' and 'more' signs more consistently.

2. I'm going cake pop crazy. What did I get myself into? I am no baker! I'd rather cook up a storm than bake a wedding cake.

The things we do for our kids, huh! I promised Daniel cake pops for his party. I sure will deliver!

3. Nfp
I Saw this on the nfp Indy website.

We sure don't look like this when interpreting our charts.

More like this. With a baby!

Via

Nfp is hard for breastfeeding moms. I don't even know how to make sense of my temps and my symptoms (!)

Hence researching the nfp Indy website and looking for refresher courses. I found out there's a postpartum class offered too. I am signing up for that one!

4. Save lives
Have you taken a CPR class?
I encourage you to do so.

I do not need to keep up with my pediatric advanced life support (PALS). Basic life support (BLS) for health care providers would be sufficient for me. I do not work at the ER or ICU.

High quality CPR, which is taught in BLS, is what saves lives. Out in the field, the park, pool, grocery store, airplane.

Recertifying was for my own knowledge. It's nice to keep updated with PALS.

5. Babe born with HIV
NPR did a segment on the babe that was thought to be 'cured' after receiving antiretrovirals right after birth. The virus was undetected for quite sometime. The treating physicians, however, remained skeptical. They tested her routinely. Until recently, lab results showed positive viral titers.

One more thing about this story, the babe was lost to follow up for about 6 months. She was not getting her meds those 6 months.

Cases like that of "lost to follow-up" or noncompliance sadden me.

6. Baby jogger craze
A couple of weeks ago, I found a double jogger on craigslist. I was looking for a Phil and Teds, similar to Grace's.
Nada.
But There were several double joggers though.

The older children like our new-to-us jogger. The weather here in Indy has been pleasant that we are able to jog on the evenings.

7. Picture I'm sharing

Daniel always finds the biggest twigs or branches in our backyard and brandishes them as if they're swords.

got ready like it's a first date

Shouldn't we always get ready for a date with our husbands like it's a first date?

I did not mean to take 45 minutes to get ready. In fact, I already know what I want to wear for months! I bought this dress while I was still pregnant with Sebastian (so yes, you've got your calculations right! I got this dress last summer!) I got tired of buying loose dresses for my growing body and belly.

So pop Sebastian, and I still did not wear this dress.
1. It's short for work.
2. I cannot really wear it when I am with Sebastian... How can I nurse while wearing this thing?!

We got so busy.... With life.... That Derrick and I haven't been on a date. Sure, we have gone out without the older two. Bringing Bastian alone to our Friday-eating out was pretty much date night. Sebastian is so quiet and such an easy child that he sometimes just sleeps in his car seat or sits on my lap.

But there is nothing like a date-date without the children.
And we still followed our rule of no conversations about our children for at least the first 30 minutes of our date.

It's nice to reconnect.
Nice to know that hubs and I still have things in common -- besides our children.
