As I'm typing this, Lucy and I are inside the warm house while the others play in the (dusting of) snow. Grateful for a restful Sunday without any activities planned. I like that.

We went to Vigil Mass. That jampacked our Saturday  and left Sunday free to stay at home and spend quality time with the family.

I didn't step into the mall for my Christmas shopping. Yesterday though,  I didn't have a choice but finally go to the outlet store an hour away from the city to return an online Black Friday purchase. Yes, I pushed it to the almost 60 day return limit.

Once we were there, we walked around and finally got hubs' Christmas presents which he asked to get after Christmas because of the "after holiday deals". That's my husband. He's the frugal and more sensible person in the family. (I'm a sales/clearance shopper myself but those get canceled out by my "not so sensible purchase" ahem... My handbag collection).

After our errands, it was pretty much time for Mass.
I don't even remember the key points of the homily. :( I had to reread it online.

I've got a busy crew. It felt busier than "usual" because hubs was the lead usher.  I was nursing the baby and trying to block/pin Sebastian in between my legs to prevent him from running away. Then a whining 6 year old who  I tried to reason with pouted some more. the 4 year old was whisked away by her king (aka daddy). Thankfully there was no indecent exposure in my part.

The children played musical chairs for an hour. They all want their daddy. So if he left the pew for the collection or to greet the parishioners or whatever, everyone (except the baby who cannot walk yet) wanted to follow him.

How do you moms prevent musical chairs? I don't want to be excessively calling them  out  and making them "sit still" but the "ignoring" them and closing my eyes and praying part is difficult as well. If they're distracting me, the people around us were distracted too.

After Mass, I avoided eye contact with the parishioners around us. One of Daniel's classmate's mom said hi and said: he is busy isn't he? (Referring to Mr busy bee SJ).

That's why I haven't volunteered to play the the piano in awhile. I knew if I help out, it will have to be a different Mass without the children. I cannot/would not leave my husband alone in the pew with 4 children. It's hard to corral 4 with just two hands.  (plus I haven't practiced in awhile.... sad)

We lay down expectations before Mass. We talk to them right after Mass. But it's still hit or miss with their behaviors :(

One runs away.
This same one plays with the books and shuffles and pretends to read them.
One wants to be held when she's already 4 years old.
One plays musical chairs.
One wants to nurse.

I want to bring to them to Church so they start participating at a young age. How will they be exposed to the Eucharist if they don't see the Eucharist? Yet, on the other hand I also know how difficult it  is for younger children to sit still for 1 hour.

All in all, this weekend is a great weekend to officially end the Christmas season. it's also time to take down the decorations.... but I convinced my husband to keep the small tree (without the ornaments) and leave it up with the lights... for a little while.

Happy Feast of the Baptism of the LORD.

casual pick-up + exercise routine

As much as I love wearing my husband's loose shirts, I would actually like to eventually wear my clothes again. Because of the new baby and breastfeeding, quite a few of my summer tops are still tight on my chest. Slowly, I am pulling a few short sleeve tops I thrifted last year for the last days of summer.

This one is a step-up from my usual loose tee and gym shorts ensemble for school pickup. Adding a little bit of ballet flats sparkle brought a spring to my step (ba dum tssh!)

It's only  been a couple of weeks since Derrick and i started working out regularly in the morning before the children wake up. But we already see a difference. Early to bed, early to rise as my grandpa told me growing up. It's nice to get 30 minute workouts out of the way to give you that boost of energy for the rest of the day.

I can also see that my arms are getting stronger. I carry Sebastian and/or that heavy carseat around and fatigued much later than usual.

I am not following the diet portion of the 21 day fix strictly. I agree with my OB that the diet portion does not have a lot of fat needed for nursing. I need the healthy fats for breastfeeding.... not the fat on my thighs or belly! The portion control is perfect to help me get back to mindful, healthy eating. Cutting out ice cream everyday has made a big difference. surprise, surprise.

I did not do the before photos with the swimsuit on (yikes!) But it will be nice to look back at my OOTD posts from a few weeks back and follow my progress. Will I see a difference?

Anthropologie top, thrifted // Old Navy shorts, thrifted from my sis
Old Navy sparkles, this one is less than $40 //  Necklace from my sis

As per my usual routine, I add photo outtakes - the ones that would not have made the cut in any blog but worth placing here for kicks and giggles.

And here's my awesome photographer.

He is an awesome first grader! He is already reading short picture books. He tolerates my OOTD photo requests after school pick-up.

Do you see those cute dimples at the top of his cheeks? Bastian has those too! They got them from their daddy.

Have a good day, friends!

floral + Balenciaga + thoughts about this week's Gospel {wiws}

Anthropologie top, thrifted // Banana Republic skirt, via ThredUp // Naturalizer lennox pumps // Balenciaga Pompon satchel // Michael Kors bradshaw watch

^^Hubs like taking close up photos specially when I walk up to him after our photo shoots. Just when I check his work. This one turned out "great" he said so it made it on the blog. the other shots from previous fashion posts were just plain hilarious.

Balenciaga Pompon satchel #usedisthenewnew

I tried to sell this floral skirt on eBay. it's 100% silk and nobody wanted it! Well, their loss is my gain. since I cannot fit in my regular clothes yet, I was able to wear this although it's still snug.

The naturalizer pumps made the photoshoot but not Vigil Mass. My big size 8 feet cannot fit to my 7.5 pumps... (Question to my mom readers: When you were postpartum, how long did it take for your feet to go back to their regular size? Did they ever go back to their previous size?)

For this week's Mass Grades, I asked hubs to grade the children.
Daniel - B+
Isabel - A-
Sebastian - B
Lucy - amazing, A+++++. she slept the entire time and did not have to nurse.

This was the first time the 6 of us went to Mass together. we sat at the back instead of our usual pew #5. Derrick served as an usher too. Let's just say it was quite interesting. Good thing Lucy was amazingly quiet.

When I travel, I tend to overpack. Imagine if Jesus says: ok go on your trip. Bring a walking stick but that's it. No extra flipflops or cardigan or extra food or extra tops. No ipad, iphone or DVD player. But you can take your husband.

We are still in the adjustment phase with our new brood. We now have 4 hatchlings. We DO NOT know what we are doing. Maybe Derrick does... But I sure do not have any pattern or rhythm or "I got it down" moment yet.

And it's not just about rearing young children that the Gospel got to me -- but also with my life and faith. God asks me today (everyday) to trust in him. Take what is NEEDED -- the bare minimum and leave the rest to him. He will  provide what I truly need, crave and require to be a caring and patient mom.... a loving wife... a saint.

Just like the Twelve, if I follow Him, I will be able to perform what he asks of me... like drive away demons or more like, change diapers, make dinner, read Scripture diligently.

Have a good restful Sunday, friends.
