68 degrees in December? in the midwest? am I sure I am not vacationing down in FL or something? It is truly in the 60s here! hence the exposed legs... I would have worn sandals but my toenails are in bad need of a pedicure.

It's Gaudete Sunday and St. Lucy's feastday! I had to incorporate something pink/rose for my WIWS outfit. I did not need to wear the puffer vest. It's warm enough.

Follow us on instagram and snapchat (DISISD is the username) as we will be celebrating our first St Lucy's feastday. I am making cinnamon bread (not from scratch, like my talented baker-sister). I went to the pillsbury section and got something with creamcheese icing.  I am following Lacy's instructions.  I hope mine turns out edible.

Have a blessed Gaudete Sunday!

if you haven't entered the giveaway, do it now :)

Blue polka dot dress and studded oxblood red suede wedges {wiws, Sunday style}

Oxblood red? Not really a very enticing name for a pretty shade of red.... Just the name gives me the creeps. Yet, I use it here to describe my new fave wedges.
Wedges are so forgiving. They give me height. Instead of heels, these are more comfortable for a whole day in clinic.

Oxblood red is an "in" color for autumn. You'll see it in purses, lipstick and shoes.

I really, really {to the infinity} wanted to wear my wedges tonight. But the weather was not cooperative. if you want to see them, scroll down to the bottom to see a preview. Hopefully next week, I can wear them for Mass.

^^i look like I'm 15 here, hmmmm...^

Happy 27th Sunday of ordinary time and Respect for Life Sunday. The second reading is so appropriate right now ~~ with the govt shutdown, lay offs at work, my job situation.
So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for his sake; but bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God - 2 Timothy 1:8

Dress and football {wiws}

Happy Lord's Day!
It's also the first preseason homegame for the Colts! Instead of sporting my usual colts blue or Colts jersey, thought I'd spice things up. (My jerseys don't fit and I'll have plenty more home games to wear them) We went to 10:30a Mass before dropping off the kids at my mom's. I look forward to these home games because it's just me and Derrick and it's our date out.

First, Mass behaviors:
Daniel: B {it could have been an A, except for the li'l bladder/bowel incidence during the consecration. I had to babysit him while he does his business. Thankfully, I can still hear the priest but cannot see him as he lifted up the blessed host and the chalice}
Isabel: C {this gal got into a fight with her brother, throwing crayons at him and hitting him.. Aaahhh!}

I got a lot of walking done today. About a mile or so walk to and from the stadium. Plus the stairs I took, {uhm, lets see} 5x to go to the ladies room during the game. Plus the walk around the stadium concourse after the game so we could stop by the NFL pro shop. Yikes, yikes, yikes, those jerseys cost A LOT! Derrick got my personalized jersey 5 years ago and it was not cheap but didn't cost an arm and a leg. Jerseys now cost $155-199. Yikes.

Ootd:
Flowery nonmaternity dress: Steve Madden, from NYC (old as in from 2010)
Belt: old navy
Sandals: Reaction Kenneth Cole
Sunnies: Guess
Horseshoe sapphire and diamond necklace: birthday gift from hubs, ShaneCo (when I received this, he told me he picked it because it matches my wedding set. I responded, good thing I'm a colts fan! -- and that horseshoe is a lucky charm!)

What my kids wore:
Daniel: old navy polo (similar), gap shorts. Sporting Spider-Man and his new haircut, ready for school
Isabel: Janie and jack pink blouse {major sale price now!!!} , hand-me-down white capris, hello kitty barrettes (her choice) holding her friend Elmo.

Also happy feastday to my patron saint, Clare of Assisi!

Isabel's feast day

Alright my fellow Americans .... It's 4th of July, happy Independence Day.
It's also my little girl's feast day or name day. She's named after st. Isabel of Portugal whose feast we celebrate today.

Very laid back day {as in lazy day here}. We thought we will go to the pool but it's been cloudy. Then we planned to go to the movies and timing just got pushed back and back. So just like any other American family we had chick fil A for lunch yumm... And possibly later share a red velvet cupcake.

A. I ask Ms. Isabel to pose, she gives me this look with her baby Stella
B. somebody's wearing red white and blue
C. Here's your paci, baby Stella.. The only baby who likes the pacifier in this house.

My post from last year's feast. notice the exercise ball in the same place. Yes,we have used it and moved it in the past year. It just loves that corner of the family room.

My patron saint for 2013

I actually thought about finding a saint for 2012 early last year..... Never got to do it. I guess I figured I have my all time faves to talk to: Paul, Luke, Clare, Gianna, James
Thanks to the saint generator, it made it fun and exciting to receive a saint --- like a birthday surprise. You won't know who/what you'd get.
And......... To end the suspense, I introduce you:
St. Basil the Great
Whose feast day is today January 2nd

He is a power saint! A doctor of the church. Just how cool is that?
Patronage: Hospital Administrators; Reformers; Russia
From catholic.org
.... a man of vast learning and constant activity, genuine eloquence and immense charity. This earned for him the title of "Great" during his life and Doctor of the Church after his death. Basil was one of the giants of the early Church.

Wow.

Looks like we are gonna be close this year of faith, St. Basil.
Prayer: St. Basil, may I learn your ways, imitate your charity and love God above all. Pray for me this year 2013. Amen.

Who did you get as your patron saint? Please share below.....

Answered prayer

Pampanga has a monastery for our sisters of Poor Clares. I remember visiting our cloistered nuns bringing them "eggs". I don't really know why we brought them eggs I was young, I did not ask why. Because my grandmother had chickens? Because eggs are good source of protein?

So I did a little research while writing this post (thanks google!). The tradition of offering eggs in exchange for prayers dates  back to medieval times. Clara (Spanish version of Clare) means clear. I guess in essence clear as the egg whites. I was partly right, eggs were offered for our sisters food. Couples offer eggs asking for "clear" weather for their wedding day, examinees ask to pass their boards, etc etc

So little me, with my grandmom and aunt visited our Poor Clares. Our sisters only show their faces to the public once a year -- on Christmas Day. We gave them our egg offering and asked for their intercession. My last trip to the monastery was before our US Embassy appointment. I asked that our papers be approved so that my sister and I can move to the US and be with our mom. As a keepsake, the sister we met (saw her face instead of just the window and her hand!) gave me a rosary she and the other Poor Clares made. I still have that rosary which I keep in my car.

Our prayers were answered! Thanks be to God and through the intercession of St. Clare! A few months later, the US consulate approved our papers and we were on our way across the globe to be with our mom!

St Clare has been my patron saint since childhood. The most exciting part of my pilgrimage to Italy (after seeing the Pope!) was visiting Basilica di Santa Chiara (Italian for Clare) in Assisi, Italy. I am so lucky to have visited the church that houses her tomb. I was like a child on Christmas day filled with excitement and giddiness as I saw the pink facade of the church. Pink and white Assisian stones were used. How appropriate you would say, that my favorite color is pink!

When I was young, I dreamt of being a nun and joining the Poor Clares. Obviously my calling led me to family life. Still I keep St. Clare close to my heart, keeping her as my patron saint and celebrating her feastday.

My beautiful cousin Kiara is named after St. Clare. I am saving the name "Clare" for my other daughter -- if the Lord almighty blesses me with more children in the future! It will be wonderful to share this feastday with my daughter....

Soldier for Christ

Today we celebrate the feastday of St. Ignatius Loyola -- founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and  a soldier for Christ and the Catholic Faith. He is one of my favorite theologians and saints.

Here's a beautiful prayer from today's Living with Christ.

O God, I dedicate this new day to you;
as I go about my work.
I ask you to bless those
with whom I come in contact.
Lord, I pray for all men and women
who work to earn their living;
give them satisfaction in what they do.
Spirit of God,
comfort the unemployed and their families;
they are your children and my brothers and sisters.
I ask you to help them find work soon. Amen.
St. Ignatius of Loyola

My prayer today: Dear Heavenly Father, may I be like St. Ignatius -- humble and obedient. May I be filled with desire to grow in my faith and in my vocation. May I be a fighter for Christ. Amen.

Happy Feast day Isabel!

Feastdays are big in the Catholic community. In the Philippines, since towns are usually named after saints, there are parties all over town celebrating the saint's feastday. There will be dancing, singing, fair, carnival rides and TONS of food! Friends and family from other towns come and celebrate with the host town.
Recently, we celebrated St. John the Baptist' feastday (June 24). Besides the food and dancing, there's also the tradition of spraying, sprinkling, showering everyone who passes by San Juan (town) with water, following the lead of our Lord's cousin with baptizing with water! When I was in the Philippines, cars and jeepneys avoid passing by San Juan on my way to school. We did not want to be drenched in water!

Our family took the tradition of celebrating our saint's name feastday. Today is a special day for my 7-month old. July 4th is the feastday of St. Isabel of Portugal -- the saint my little girl is named after!
I am thankful it's my day off. We have a relaxing day planned! Hanging out at home, spending time with the family, trip to get some cupcakes (one reason to splurge and eat the gourmet cupcakes sold near our house), watch fireworks display downtown since it's also Independence Day. Most of all, Derrick and I take this opportunity to teach our little ones (better start early even when they are young) to teach them about the rich Catholic culture and tradition. Saints are our friends, our brothers and sisters who have gone before us who lived as witnesses of Christ's love for the world. We can ask for our patron saints intercession. (I have my testimonial of prayer answered with a saint's intercession --- a future post!)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1 RSV

Apostles creed:
...I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church footnotes added
956 The intercession of the saints. "Being more closely united to Christ, those who dwell in heaven fix the whole Church more firmly in holiness.... They do not cease to intercede with the Father for us, as they proffer the merits which they acquired on earth through the one mediator between God and men, Christ Jesus.... So by their fraternal concern is our weakness greatly helped."493 (Pope Paul VI, Lumen Gentium 49, 1964)

Do not weep, for I shall be more useful to you after my death and I shall help you then more effectively than during my life.494 (St. Dominic, dying, to his brothers)
I want to spend my heaven in doing good on earth. 495 (St. Therese of Lisieux)

957 Communion with the saints. "It is not merely by the title of example that we cherish the memory of those in heaven; we seek, rather, that by this devotion to the exercise of fraternal charity the union of the whole Church in the Spirit may be strengthened. Exactly as Christian communion among our fellow pilgrims brings us closer to Christ, so our communion with the saints joins us to Christ, from whom as from its fountain and head issues all grace, and the life of the People of God itself"496 (Pope Paul VI, Lumen Gentium 50, 1964)

We worship Christ as God's Son; we love the martyrs as the Lord's disciples and imitators, and rightly so because of their matchless devotion towards their king and master. May we also be their companions and fellow disciples!497 Martyrium Polycarpi, 17: Apostolic Fathers II/3, 396)

Delima family feastdays:
Daniel - December 17 (prophet Daniel)
Derrick -December 29 (King David, his confirmation saint name)
Isis - August 11 (St. Clare, my patron saint), August 28 (St. Gianna Beretta Molla -- my patron saint I became a wife, mother and doctor)

And now the obligatory baby Isabel pictures of cuteness!

St. Isabel of Portugal, pray for us!
