cozy with my brown sweater {wiws}

One reprieve from this cold weather is this cozy, warm, soft brown sweater I bought a couple of months ago but haven't worn yet when Gap had 40%off everything online.

Hubs got  a break from getting my photo today. I recruited my middle child who is only THREE!
Do you think she did an alright job?

Gap sweater // White plum Navy leggings // Souvenir Union Jack socks from my honeymoon

{It's 16F outside and I could not bear posing for an OOTD photo outside. So yes, you have to see the socks}

by the way, Gap has another 40% off deal today with the code: WINTER. It ends tomorrow 2/16 so get yourself a cozy sweater!

jambalaya {recipe}

Mrs. wanna-be chef is back. I made jambalaya this weekend. Costco does not carry andouille sausage. bummer. so this is shrimp (only) jambalaya.

Do not be scared of the list of spices. You probably have all in your pantry already. I doubled the recipe because we love left overs. For this recipe, I used both canned diced tomatoes and fresh roma tomatoes.

Let me know what you think once you've made it.

Ingredients:
1 tbsp olive oil
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped red bell pepper
1 tbsp minced garlic
6 oz andouille sausage, sliced
1 cup uncooked white rice
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/4 tsp garlic salt
1 bay leaf
2 cups fat-free, low Na chicken broth
3/4 cup water
1 tbsp tomato paste
1/2 tsp hot pepper sauce (I used tabasco)
1 {14.5 oz} can no salt-added diced tomatoes, undrained (or use fresh!)
1/2 lb peeled and deveined shrimp
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

To prepare:
Heat Olive oil in large Dutch oven over medium high-heat.
Add chopped onion, bell pepper, minced garlic, sausage. Saute x 5 minutes or until veges are tender.
Add rice and ingredients from paprika through bay leaf (7 ingredients). Cook x 2 minutes.
Add broth, water, tomato paste, hot pepper sauce and diced tomatoes. Bring to a boil.
Cover, reduce heat and simmer x 20 minutes.
Add shrimp, Cook x 5 minutes.
Let stand x 5 minutes.
Discard bay leaf. Stir in parsley.
Enjoy!

the red cape and the boys {wiws}

This weekend was not supposed to be my weekend to work. Thanks to one of my colleagues for switching a June weekend. It ended up being a good trade. I was not first call. So besides transfer calls from outside hospitals, I was not paged much. I also had a PGY5 (post graduate year 5) resident with me. She is less than 6 months from finishing her training. She took care of the 4 new patients Saturday.

We have to be thankful for the little things too. Like going to Mass without getting paged! (virtual high five to all!)

I want to give kudos to my husband for taking care of the babies all weekend long. He even took them to the park Sunday morning because the temps were in the 50s! He had to push all 3 kids on the swing, which prompted my eldest to say: Mommy should be here to help push!

well, son... sometimes, mommy has to go to work.

Overall, I want to give this weekend an A. To celebrate finishing my weekend obligations, we also had our agape group Sunday night. I brought this. I love our small group.

fair isle + eggplant {wiws}

Oh hey, hey. It's Sunday and time to link up with the ladies of FL&P and WWIW.

This sweater is comfy. It screams warmth and snowstorm in the vicinity. The weathermen (and women) over-reacted yet again for the forecast. I woke up this morning hoping to see inches and inches of pure, white snow. To my dismay, there was barely a dusting on the ground. The prediction of 5-8 inches went down to 2-5 inches yesterday and the real thing: 1-3 inches with rain mixed with the snow. I am expecting less than an inch. I don't have viper or any weather GPS-thing radar at home, but that's my prediction.

I hope you're having a fun weekend, may it include football or not. Surprise but we are not watching the Superbowl.  I won't root for the Patriots because they are archenemies of the Colts since Peyton's time... and the Seahawks are archenemies of the 49ers, which by extension, I am a supporter.

Solution: hubs and I are going to date night! and thanks to the lack of snow on the ground, we don't have to cancel our reservations!
