thoughts of a headmistress and an MD

It's day three of homeschooling.
What a contrast of last week and this week. I had long days as the neurology consult doc week ending Friday the 13th. This week,  I am running the Delima academy. I am the headmistress of our "boarding school." At least I like to think I am the headmistress. Sounds British and foreign...

Fortunately, I have amazing colleagues that help each other. Nonurgent visits have been cancelled. Not all physicians need to show up for 1-2 patients. We consolidated by having a "clinic doctor" to cover the day.  Therefore this week, I am able to focus on the children's schoolwork. I am not sure how long we will have e-learning/quaran-teaching so I am truly invested in my children's education. Everything is still up in the air. Will they lengthen the schoolyear till June? Will they just let us homeschool then test then see if they are ok moving to the next grade>

Today, as a physician, I answered patient messages.  I also screened my next week's schedule and sent messages:
reschedule nonurgent
vs
urgent.

Having to juggle work and then homeschool was not easy. Understatement huh? All I did was send messages. I did not call patients. It was not doable in a crazy, chaotic,  loud home.

I definitely feel for y'all who have to work full-time, attend virtual meetings and phone calls, care for children, teach them. I had several moments that I raised my voice and spoke in a non-loving way today. A couple of times, I went to the dining room (Derrick's makeshift office) to vent my frustrations.

I have been posting stories and videos of our homeschooling journey. I want to remember the gift of staying at home, pausing and being with the children. I share our schedule here not to make people feel unequipped because we have it altogether. It's the opposite! This schedule has been thrown off 30 mins to 1 hour and we have only been doing this x 3 days.  I am also embarrassed to say that we have skipped exercise. The children went outside to play. I should just make that my yoga/stretching/barre/ANY movement is good time.

Let's end this blog post with a thankful list:
Colleagues who take initiative and plan the week.
Colleagues who cover for me so I can focus on the children's work.
Husband who helps out despite having to work from home.
Internet so we can facetime, zoom, skype, FB chat with family and friends.
Pens that made my lesson plan nice and pretty.
Doodling with Mo Willems. Now I can draw pigeons, Gerald's face and Piggie's face.
Lesson plans and worksheets from schoolteachers. I just implement what they already prepared.
Healthcare workers in the front lines
Wine

what i wore sunday + life lately

1. This outfit
I love a good chambray. Make it a shirtdress then it's definitely a win! I scored this one from Draper James and it's 100% cotton.

2. Who has seen Frozen II? Shhhh. Do not tell my children. I like the original better. I probably just need to watch (and watch and watch) it and then the songs will get ingrained in my brain and I will be brainwashed. Having said that, I still like the sequel and I highly recommend it.

3. Why watch a movie on opening weekend?
Anything for your children, right? We took our birthday girl and her friends to the movies. I am sharing  birthday party photos here on the blog tomorrow and on instagram. Be sure to come back.

4. I am consistently wearing this garmin steps tracker.   I received it after signing up on a research study. For somebody who has  avoided the fitbit for a decade (because I like my swatch watches and large MK watches), the garmin vivo fit 4 is good for entry level  activity tracker.  It covers the basics (steps + distance + watch + dates + timer + stopwatch + calories). There is no HR tracker.

5. Let's talk football.
Hubs' team SF 49ers are killing it. It is their time. They have been awful for the past few seasons. They had that one great year in 2012 but then did not make it to the Superbowl.
I have been thinking about Tua Tagovailoa, the QB of my fave Bama Roll Tide.  A hip dislocation is a serious injury. He underwent surgery and is recovering. It will be a long rehab...

daniel is ten

Thankful that he let me take a photo of him next to these blocks.  Pretty soon, I will blink and he is going to ask me not talk about him on the blog.

I took Nash's one month photos today and then asked him to do the same thing. I did not hear any complaints.

daniel is nine

Photo diary of my eldest's birthday. I became his mama nine years ago.

We went to the pool in the morning then dinner with family. My aunt/godmom who lives in Italy made homemade pasta. It was so so good. So light and tasty. The birthday boy ate two big helpings!

Thanks to my other aunt for the Maryland Crabs. yummmmmmm!
The St. Louis got balloons and we got the ice cream cake. It was a wonderful day.

I am going to stay as a mom-blogger. I do not have a future in full-time food blogging. These photos do not give the meal justice! The pasta is to-die for. My godmom labored all day.

The pasta was our first course.
The crabs, corn, rice and veggies was the next course.

3.15.2018

my four munchkins

These four are a hoot!
I told them I want to take their photos "walking" and they pretended that they are robots.  Their most favorite thing to do when I take out my camera is to jump and run.

My canon6d is great for still photos and portraits. It's not known for action and sports shots. When you have 4 moving bodies, I am failing at this photography thing.

I sure miss them! I know that they are having the best time while momma and dada are out.
