We visited Conner Prairie for the first time! Conner Prairie is a living history museum with outdoor experiences and also  a hands-on indoor STEM-based area.

day trip to george washington's mount vernon {photo diary}

Kitchen at Mount Vernon. Look at that worktable. It is as big as my breakfast table right now. Just shows no matter what size of the kitchen, as long as it is functional, it is a good kitchen!

Selfie of the 3rd place holders. We had an amazing race family edition to Mount Vernon. My dad and his sisters made it there first. They did as it should be because their youngest member is 14 years old. Nobody age 9 and younger for the winners.

My sis and her family made it second place.  They came from the north, less miles. We were third place. My aunt and her 3 kids made it 4th. My cousin with her two young ones (ages 2 and 2 months) made it last. In their defense, the schedule is usually ran by the baby. They are ok arriving last.

Sorry to disappoint, y'all There won't be a poem here. Nada. I just like that title because here are my quick takes for summer 2018.  You could call this a summer of firsts!


1.Birthdays all over
We started the summer break with Memorial weekend and my mom's birthday. Then I celebrated my 35th birthday and went to a fancy date night with hubs at St. Elmo Steakhouse. It was our first time dining there and trying their world-famous shrimp cocktail. Lucy and Daniel turned 3 and 9 years old, respectively.
D and I were the same age, until end of July when he turned a year older. It was my first time going to Giordano's here in Indy. He requested deep-dish pizza (his fave).



2. Maryland reunion
I saw my godmom (my dad's sister) after two decades. I met my cousin K and A for the first time! We went to see George Washington's Estate: Mount Vernon in VA. We swam at the Chesapeake Bay. I ate so much crab. I ate crab everyday that week.



3. To continue the summer at the lake, we ventured north of our fave New Buffalo, MI and went to South Haven. We have been to South Haven before... when we only had two kids!   I wore this suit in MI and again in MD. It's one of my fave suits.
This ice cream yogurt place is in St. Joseph, south of South Haven.

last summer hoorah + more quick takes

1. My family's last summer hoorah was this past weekend.
We drove 3 hours north of Indy and went to the beach of Lake Michigan. I have lots and lots of photos but they will have to be resized. I added a few above and I still have 200+ more. Not that I will share all 200+.

The children were so excited Friday night. They were asking as soon as school was out if we can drive to the beach already.

They are definitely my children. They love the beach and the sun and the (cool) water. Isabel and Daniel practiced their glides and floats. I went to the water while watching them. It took awhile till I submerged my body to waist-deep water. I had to get those receptors used to the cold freshwater.

The waves were calm that I let the children swim. Last month, the waves were so high and rip currents were pretty scary.

SW Michigan was also a lot quieter than last month. School started to tourists from Indiana and Chicago did not flock New Buffalo. I bet Labor Day weekend is another story though.

I taught Lucy high fives, low fives, fist bump and ---> blowing a kiss! it's so cute how she puckers her lips and squints her eyes. I love seeing her give me flying kisses. I pretend to catch her kisses and she giggles!

It's a game we play over and over. I love it!
