1. Thank you Laura for the recommendation. My canvases came and I LOVE how they turned out. I ordered 11 x 14 prints of the older 4 and another one of hubs and me from our 10 year anniv photos. Easy Canvas Prints is having a major sale right now.  With eBates, you can get 1.5% cashback.

I love the products so much that I ordered scripture printables  and all saints printable and had them printed on 8 x 10 canvases.

2. I don't want to keep watching BONES. why? Because I am down to the last 2 episodes of the series. I always feel like this specially when reading a good book. When I am at the very last chapter, I dread reading the last page because then I know I am done with the book... I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way when reading or enjoying a good book or TV series. Who's with me?

On me:
skirt, BR
I am selling mine, if interested, email or comment below.
Shoulder Bag, Gucci

on Lucy:
dress via hautelook

on Bastian:
Pique polo shirt, Gap
Shorts, Carter's
Saltwater Sandals

on Isabel:
dress c/o
sandals c/o lolo and lola
band aids x 3

This skirt finally fits me. YAAASSSS!!!

I got this skirt with my BR $15 off birthday coupon last year. I was 8.5 mos pregnant with Lucy. I was tired of buying loose clothes. I saw this lovely  white highwaist pencil skirt. With the40% off sale and my birthday coupon, I could not pass it up. Even though it was not even going past my big hips.

By the time my uterus shrunk to its prenatal size (notice, I said uterus... not my actual stomach or mommy pooch), it was already September and the skirt still won't zip! October, November, December came. I placed the skirt in my summer pile. Who wants to wear white when it's dark and gloomy and snowing?

life lately

life lately via seven quick takes.
ready?
set.
go!

1. my last week of fmla
12 weeks went by fast, didn't it? For me, it sure did. My Lucy turns 12 weeks today which means I am going back to work next week. Prayers please. My anxiety is kicking in.  I hate the stress of getting out of the house in the morning. That's where most of my anxiety lies. I hate being late. (who likes being late?) I am a night owl so I need to tell myself every single night to shut down and relax and go to sleep. I need at least 6.5-7 hours of sleep. I can function with less than that but i am proned to hunger, headaches, bad mood etc.  if I only get 6 hours (or less) night after night after night.

2. Bastian is sick (was)
written Tuesday: Would you believe me that this was the first time Sebastian received a prescription for an antibiotic? The covering pediatrician was surprised that he is 2 years old and never had an antibiotic. True, he has had colds, fevers and cough. His fevers usually proclaim their source though. His fevers also go away within 48 hours. So when I think about taking him in, he gets better.

This week though was a different story. His fever lingered for over 48 hours. He lost his appetite. It broke my heart to see him cry.

update Thursday: Thanks for the prayers -- he is back to his happy self. He is catching up with food too :)

3. nyfw
If I am not a mama of 4, I think I will do something in the fashion industry. Just so I could go to New York Fashion Week. I followed all these bloggers on their snapchat and "enjoyed" the fashion shows.

4. snapchat
Speaking of snapchat, I am so addicted. I have been trying to convince my mom to download the app... (are you reading this, mom?) There's tons of videos of the children there...

Like this ONE!

(My username is disisd!) add ME.

5. extracurricular activities
My eldest is busy this fall with extracurricular activities.
He has soccer until end of October. But his team lost their first 2 games though. :(
He also joined the BSA. They went to a rocket launch this past weekend. He enjoyed shooting BB guns but missed the archery station because he had to go to his soccer match.
His school offers a once a week drumming class... it's for K-2nd grade. It's basic rhythm and beats and he's enjoying it.

6. working out
hubs and I are doing a second round of the 21 day fix. I am thinking of starting p90x3, come first of the month. Any of my readers p90x3 grads? any tips?

we went to a sporting goods store this past weekend to get heavier weights. Not boasting or anything but I am not lifting mere 3-5 lbs anymore.. I am going up there folks! haha, more like going to 8-10 lbs. This means whether hubs like it or not he has to go up as well bec I am claiming his weights.

we got a Pull up bar - something I have been asking hubs to get me for years. That's one of my goals. I want to perform a real pull up.

while browsing, we found the clearance rack. Daniel got a cute Pacers hoodie and I found these under armour tights for $12. They are girls size. I also found these shorts (both are under $12!) high five!

nike pro compression shorts for girls
under armour compression shorts

I also got the Champion high support sports bra in bright orange (less than $12!)
and these  cute Reebok pink ones.

jumpstarting my workouts {21 day fix review}

Don't worry my dears. I will spare you with my before and after pictures.
You won't see those here.

plus there's really not much of a difference externally. so no bathing suit pictures here of me frowning on the left and smiling on the right side.

full disclosure: this post is in no way a sponsored post. I just want to share  my journey so far. journey of loosing all those shakes and icecream I ate everyday during my fourth pregnancy. I shared last week that I started exercising regularly in the morning.

I have been looking for an exercise program to jumpstart my workouts. I need something to start anew. I have never been excited with a program, since 2008 when zumba became all the craze. I have been following jenna's feed and was encouraged by her experience as a beachbody coach. I decided to follow suit. I bought the 21day fix package after delivery. At 4 weeks postpartum, I chose a date to start eating mindfully and healthily. That means no ice cream everyday!

first impression: yes those containers are small. But once you start packing your veggies and fruit and meat ~ you can have an entire meal that will fill you up.

confession: I am not following the containers strictly. I am breastfeeding and per my OB and BB coach (who is Jenna) that I need to add 300-500 calories on top of the recommended calorie intake per my current weight. It's not much of a difference by adding that extra 300-500 calories. You will be surprised. It's basically just adding another green container (veggie) plus/minus another red container (proteins).

I needed the portion control aspect of the 21 day fix. I used to be a healthy and mindful eater. Then I started having babies and I reward myself with ice cream or sweet Moscato wine after a long day at home or a long day at work. That had to stop.

The diet portion also focuses on eating whole foods and whole grains. Just mentally doing a checklist helps me make the right decisions. If it's processed, stay away from it. if it's whole foods, as long as it's within my allotted container, then I can have it.

Right away, I realized I could not fit all green containers in one day. It's a lot of veggies.
So I finally asked Derrick to get me a Blendtec.
y'all, the blendtec is amazing! My sis and bff did not lie! it's an awesome product. I can make sweet smoothies using the following recipe, no sugar added! and it's yummy.

I follow the 60/40 rule. 60% fruit and 40% veggies so it won't be too bitter or awful in the morning.

3 cups of frozen mango/peach + 2 cups of kale and spinach + 2 cups of water = 32 oz or 2 servings
3 cups of frozen strawberry/banana + 2 cups of kale and spinach + 1 cup of water + 1 cup of OJ =  32 oz or 2 servings

I did not order the Shakeology sampler so i cannot make a comment about that yet. Maybe someday. Shakeology is a dense food nutrition promoted by BeachBody. But for now I am happy I am eating (or drinking) veggies in the morning!

Now the workouts: they are only 30 minutes! for busy folks, specially moms like me, this one is perfect! 30 minutes of hard work then you're done. I love that part!  That's why I have not been doing Zumba much because I really need 55-60 minutes of hard core dancing to get a good workout. Most days, I do not have an hour. So getting workouts done in 30 minutes is a BIG PLUS for me.

I did not start the workouts till I was cleared by my OB at 6 weeks. So from 4-6 weeks postpartum, I just did some light Zumba and started counting my containers.  Then 6 weeks on, i started the DVDs that came with the package. The fix program recommends working out everyday. There is a rotating schedule of cardio, upper, lower body, pilates, yoga, plyo in there so it's not too repetitive.

as I have mentioned last week, I get up early in the morning before kids wake up and work out. Derrick has been working out with me. Having a workout partner really helps. I was not alone in the dark doing squat jumps for 60 seconds and dying. Somebody else is feeling the burn with me!

So for the results: these are my results, yours may vary specially if you follow the diet strictly. I did not.

the first 2 weeks of following the diet loosely - i lost 2 lbs. I chucked it off to water weight shedding off. But internally, if I eat half a slice of cheesecake or ask for ice cream (yes, I did have ice cream...) then I do not feel so good with the sudden rush of sugar.

week 1-1.5 of loosely following diet + working out with the DVDs: total weight loss of 5 lbs. It was a miniscule number compared to what I have yet to loose but when my mom and sis asked me about my progress, they were so impressed that I already lost 5 lbs! I guess I should not be too hard on myself.

week 2: total weight loss of 6 lbs.
internally, i can feel I am getting stronger and able to do more reps during the weight lifting or HIIT workouts. I sleep better. I don't tire easily. I was able to fit into my BIG jeans.  I own a couple types of jeans: my pre-pregnancy jeans -- which are my goal jeans and my BIG jeans, bought 1-2 sizes up. I still have a long ways to go.

week 3: total weight loss of 7 lbs
Am I plateuing? I know why. We still go out and I still give in to those ice cream, pasta and soups which we know are laden with salt and fats.

week 4: total weight loss of 8 lbs. That's where I am right now... I am still going strong with the workouts and meal prepping. We order take out less. We eat out less. I cannot give up date night though. Friday night is something I look forward to because I get to dress up for hubs and we go out. I just have to make better choices when out... which is tough. (the cheesecake is calling... that yummy creamy pasta is calling).

My recommendations:
Two thumbs up for this program.

The best thing I am taking away from it is changing bad habits and replacing them with  good ones. When the food I eat at restaurants is too salty or too greasy, I do not feel good afterwards. Hence, I stay away from them or eat less when we are out.

I like that I can work out and see results in 30 minutes per day. It's doable!

The circuits are not too repetitive. The modifiers are doable. Whether you are a beginner or an intermediate or even advanced fitness addict looking for a change of workouts, this program will work for you.

Someday, I will follow the diet strictly. But for my sanity/mental well being, I cannot just cut out all the stuff I like. Having an ice cream scoop once a week won't mess up my diet. What messes up my healthy  eating is ice cream everyday + greasy fries for lunch + chicken nuggets + tons of carbs + smoothies when out and 1 cup of veggies per day. Only one cup. yikes... That was my diet before.... so embarrassing!

If you end up committing to the 21 day fix, please share your results! I would love to follow your progress and meal prep tips.

casual pick-up + exercise routine

As much as I love wearing my husband's loose shirts, I would actually like to eventually wear my clothes again. Because of the new baby and breastfeeding, quite a few of my summer tops are still tight on my chest. Slowly, I am pulling a few short sleeve tops I thrifted last year for the last days of summer.

This one is a step-up from my usual loose tee and gym shorts ensemble for school pickup. Adding a little bit of ballet flats sparkle brought a spring to my step (ba dum tssh!)

It's only  been a couple of weeks since Derrick and i started working out regularly in the morning before the children wake up. But we already see a difference. Early to bed, early to rise as my grandpa told me growing up. It's nice to get 30 minute workouts out of the way to give you that boost of energy for the rest of the day.

I can also see that my arms are getting stronger. I carry Sebastian and/or that heavy carseat around and fatigued much later than usual.

I am not following the diet portion of the 21 day fix strictly. I agree with my OB that the diet portion does not have a lot of fat needed for nursing. I need the healthy fats for breastfeeding.... not the fat on my thighs or belly! The portion control is perfect to help me get back to mindful, healthy eating. Cutting out ice cream everyday has made a big difference. surprise, surprise.

I did not do the before photos with the swimsuit on (yikes!) But it will be nice to look back at my OOTD posts from a few weeks back and follow my progress. Will I see a difference?

If it's pink, click the link. TIME TO SHOP!
Anthropologie top, thrifted // Old Navy shorts, thrifted from my sis
Old Navy sparkles, this one is less than $40 //  Necklace from my sis

As per my usual routine, I add photo outtakes - the ones that would not have made the cut in any blog but worth placing here for kicks and giggles.

And here's my awesome photographer.

He is an awesome first grader! He is already reading short picture books. He tolerates my OOTD photo requests after school pick-up.

Do you see those cute dimples at the top of his cheeks? Bastian has those too! They got them from their daddy.

Have a good day, friends!

Babies, nfp and saving lives {7qt}

1. My Sebastian is 10 months old!
What?
Seriously?!
He is not crawling yet. He gets places by scooting. I thought he will be pulling up to stand now. But he's such a content baby. Just chilling on the floor and waiting to be picked up or pulled up to stand.

He forgot his signs. He was doing so well until he got an ear infection. His way of communication was replaced by fussiness and crying. I am hoping he will use his 'milk' and 'more' signs more consistently.

2. I'm going cake pop crazy. What did I get myself into? I am no baker! I'd rather cook up a storm than bake a wedding cake.

The things we do for our kids, huh! I promised Daniel cake pops for his party. I sure will deliver!

3. Nfp
I Saw this on the nfp Indy website.

We sure don't look like this when interpreting our charts.

More like this. With a baby!

Via

Nfp is hard for breastfeeding moms. I don't even know how to make sense of my temps and my symptoms (!)

Hence researching the nfp Indy website and looking for refresher courses. I found out there's a postpartum class offered too. I am signing up for that one!

4. Save lives
Have you taken a CPR class?
I encourage you to do so.

I do not need to keep up with my pediatric advanced life support (PALS). Basic life support (BLS) for health care providers would be sufficient for me. I do not work at the ER or ICU.

High quality CPR, which is taught in BLS, is what saves lives. Out in the field, the park, pool, grocery store, airplane.

Recertifying was for my own knowledge. It's nice to keep updated with PALS.

5. Babe born with HIV
NPR did a segment on the babe that was thought to be 'cured' after receiving antiretrovirals right after birth. The virus was undetected for quite sometime. The treating physicians, however, remained skeptical. They tested her routinely. Until recently, lab results showed positive viral titers.

One more thing about this story, the babe was lost to follow up for about 6 months. She was not getting her meds those 6 months.

Cases like that of "lost to follow-up" or noncompliance sadden me.

6. Baby jogger craze
A couple of weeks ago, I found a double jogger on craigslist. I was looking for a Phil and Teds, similar to Grace's.
Nada.
But There were several double joggers though.

The older children like our new-to-us jogger. The weather here in Indy has been pleasant that we are able to jog on the evenings.

7. Picture I'm sharing

Daniel always finds the biggest twigs or branches in our backyard and brandishes them as if they're swords.

Thrifting, Cooking, Exercising {five faves}

Linking up with Hallie for my weekly Five Faves

1. ThredUp

Thrifting is addicting. I found some really cute, gently used baby and kids clothes on ThredUp. Thanks to Grace and Kimmie for opening my eyes to this online shop. I wish I have the endurance of Katie, Karla and Shalice to physically go to thrift stores. I tried this before -- back in the day. I just both what might look good (?) and end up giving up pretty much what I got from thrift stores. Maybe, I can go back and try again.... but with 3 kids in tow, online shopping is my friend.

Check out my finds for my babies.

2. Vegetarian recipes

I am on the hunt for delicious, easy vegetarian recipes. This showed up on my bloglovin feed. Does it count as favorite even if I haven't tried the recipe yet? I do like casseroles and broccoli and cheese and rice! I think it counts!

If you have any recipes for mattar paneer, send them my way. PLEASE! Is there a healthy version out there? I found this. Mattar is hard to find at places I usually shop (Costco and Target). I suggested substituting with TOFU. Hubs disagreed.

3. Edamame

Thanks to my friend, M, this addition to my lunch salads makes my day. every. single. time. I love the crunch. I love the protein. I love the taste. i love that it's healthy!

And guess what: instead of popping all the beans out of the pods, I found shelled soybeans at Super Target.

4. FitSugar

I posted about my new found workout on YouTube. Here's another one of my go-to workouts: 40 minutes of full body workout and 40-minute bikini body workout. You can find them on youtube or online. If I am pressed for time (which I usually am during the week), I combine 2-3 of their 10 minute workouts.

Try them. let me know what you think!

5. Pandora Pop and Hip Hop work out station

This is what I have blasting on my iPhone when I workout. LOVE IT!

It was very nice Monday and Tuesday. I worked out at the backyard while watching the children play. or climb the swing.... whatever.

From eating to working out to cleaning up {five faves}

1. Spicy shrimp stir fry
Jenna Beaugh does not disappoint. She is one of my favorite food bloggers. This recipe of spicy shrimp is amazing. Two thumbs up from hubby.

Just look at the colors of this stir-fry. The greens, red bell peppers and the shrimp..... hmmmmm... It tastes as good as it looks! I like the spicy kick from the marinade. And it's a mild kick, ok.. So don't be afraid to try it out. If you want it less spicy, then use less marinade... or like me: I added >1 broccoli head, 1.5 red bell peppers just because there was half left over from my salad this week and a big bokchoy instead of a baby bokchoy. If I put something more, might as well be the veggies, eh?

2. Sweet smelling vanilla
I had a coupon for 20% off online order and free shipping at BBW. I love vanilla. I love macarons and I love pink. This foaming handwash has it all.

3. 3 stage seat
This one is a lifesaver. Thanks to my mom for getting it for Sebastian's Christmas present. I place him here for 20-30 minutes or so and I pop a video and workout.

You've seen Bastian here...

And here.

And also here.

4. Fitness Blender
Y'all, I just cannot work out with Jillian. I just can't. I do not like being yelled at. I use her vids every now and then. But for these past couple of weeks, I have found these free full length workout videos on YouTube. I like it that they do the workouts themselves and not just telling us what to do. They huff and puff during the workout. I also use my own music blasting from the iphone. Then workout video on my ipad. Voila!

and I love hearing: workout complete.

5. Facial scrub
After raising my heart rate for 30-45 minutes, the next best thing after cool down and stretch is a nice, warm shower. I use this facial scrub 3-4x a week. It's pretty inexpensive. It does not dry out my face.

How about you? Any spicy recipes you like? Any facial cleansers or scrubs you use? How about your go-to cardio or strength training workout videos? Do you have any recommendations? How do you keep the baby occupied while you workout for 30 minutes or so? Do you do it during naps?

What I'm loving this week {five faves}

1. Salted caramel mocha
A lot of people have PSL as their holy grail of autumn. Mine is SCM. I love, love, love it. I order it:
tall
decaf (I'm a mom of a newborn so I don't know when I can nap so I better be ready and not overly caffeinated)
Nonfat
No whip
Salted
Caramel
Mocha
Yummm

It stays yummy and perfect for dessert even at the end the day when it's already lukewarm or room temp. I nurse through this drink all. Day. Long. I don't mind cold or room temp coffee.... Especially when it's like a dessert drink like this one. But I love it hot of course.

2. Nike tempo shorts
These are my walking shorts, workout shorts, every day shorts.
Pict not me. Thanks zappos model.

3. Chicco cortina Double stroller
Speaking of walks because I'm not a runner, I take my babies with me using our double stroller. It's big and bulky but the kids love it. I bet it's comfy. My Sebastian sleeps through our 2-3 mile daily walks. It's perfect because I have to push this truck of a stroller which adds to the workout.

Sebastian is at the back in the baby carrier. Isabel in front. We purchased this when Isabel was born. So two toddlers can also fit in this thing... And even two infant carriers! Very versatile.

4. Barre3
When we could not make it outside, because it's raining or the timing was just not right (baby wanting to feed, then Isabel had to be changed, then Isabel wants a snack, then baby pooped, then baby fed again, then it's lunch, then nap time etc etc), I start an online workout of barre3. I started this week at 4 weeks postpartum.

I like this workout because I like Pilates and yoga and ballet! It reminds me of my ballet classes before kids. Oh how I miss those classes. Someday, I'll bust out my leotards and tights and ballet shoes for my workout (if they even fit!)

5. Berghoff cast iron skillet
Granted, it just came today. But I love it already! Haha.
I've been dreaming of a cast iron skillet for years! And now I have one!
Can't wait to use it.

Simple woman's day book

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
Another rainy, dreary day. It's been a mild, rainy summer. No complaints except for wishing for some sun so we can go to the pool.

I am thinking...
How lucky I am to have a wonderful husband.
-- who goes to starbucks for a coffee run and calls my drink: mocha caffe whatever with skinny cow {really, cow?!}
-- who tolerated me gushing all over the man of steel
-- who let me shop online today for clothes that I won't wear till 3 months postpartum because they're all nonmaternity

I am thankful...
For my last few months of residency with a contract/job in the works... asking for prayers that things will run smoothly and I start in February.

In the kitchen...
Bagels for the rest of the week from our breakfast run this morning with Kids still in their pj's. {it was a drive thru run}

I am wearing...
Old navy maternity tank
Liz Lange maternity shirt
Liz Lange maternity shorts
Reef flip flops

I am going...
To workout with my soft weighted ball {again} today
I know I have to rotate exercise regimens. But I'm liking this gal from my free reebok DVD. She's intense but not annoying

I am wondering...
When the kids are gonna wake-up. I'm thankful for a quiet nap time, though I can't nap myself.

I am reading...
The following blogs~~
Kendi everyday
Stethoscopes, style and grace
The evangelista
Some nonmaternity fashion inspiration.

I am hoping...
For a quiet night tonight {oh did I just challenge the call gods or what.?!} I'm on call tonight. Once I'm awake answering a page, I have trouble going back to sleep.

I am looking forward to...
My sister's visit!

Around the house...
Peace and quiet

I am pondering...
What I'll wear for Sunday Mass. It has to be maternity choice.
I came out of the bedroom today wearing a nonmaternity top and Derrick busted out laughing. It was short he said.... My pregnant belly sticking out. Hence the all-maternity get up I ended up wearing.

A favorite quote for today...
Daniel: mummy, I love your belly.
{at least somebody appreciates my mid riff showing} haha

One of my favorite things...
My iPad. A gift from hubs as I started home call.
-- access work stuff while answering calls from ER, nurses, other doctors etc
-- watch my shows streaming online
-- blog, blog, blog

A few plans for the rest of the week:
-- see Ob for my 30th week prenatal check
-- restart swim lessons for the kiddos
-- despedida party for a good friend
-- hang out with my sis and her family

A peek into my day...

And... My princess is awake!

OneAmerica 500 Mini...... Marathon eh... 5K

Oh I need a nap....
Mini5K can still be tiring. Granted I didn't run the half marathon
Key words here are
1. Walk
2. 5k
Instead of the 13 mile race that thousands of people ran this morning.

This is my second 5k. First one being a 'leisure walk' during the color run 2012, with my mom. Walking for Elijah Damaris.

Sharing some pix from my trusty iPhone.

At the start of the race. Amazing big US flag.
Windy, gray morning. Still perfect for running.

Home stretch: 2.5 mile mark here....

And we made it! Our time 55 mins. Yes! Finished it under an hour.

Got my medal!

Met my cheering squad.

Something to remember waking up at the crack of dawn to walk a 5k when 20 weeks prego.

My cheering squad amazing enough didn't fuss while getting ready this morning. They went with the flow and waited at the finish line with their dad.

What a workout for Isabel.....
Their reward. Play for a lil bit at the college campus where their dad and mom met.

Are we done yet, mummy?

Gotta show our medals right at the finish line....

Maybe I'll walk/run the mini 5k next year...... For now, I'll rest, kick off my running shoes, take a nap and enjoy being pregnant.

And yes it's only 11a.

Happy Saturday!
