playing mom + 100 things

I love to journal.
Since I became a mom, this blog has become my journal. I post outfits and family memories most of the time. But I think it's time to spice things up a bit.

I will start an installment of 100 favorite things.
There will be 10 prompts and I will share 10 faves per prompt, totaling 100.

Who knows, I might actually surprise myself (or you!) with my favorites...

BTW - it was fun playing mom and reader at the children's museum. The 7 wonders of the ancient world replicas are in the museum garden. The children asked me to read each description. They asked really good questions.

outfit deets, if it's old or sold out, I shared a link of a similar item

5 favorite drinks + 5 favorite desserts

1. (Decaf) Soy Vanilla No-Foam Latte: My Starbucks go to drink. it's sweet and smooth,
I started asking no-foam on my lattes a couple of months ago. I realized I was getting half of the drink because half of it was all foam.

2. peppermint mocha: when I don't mind the calories and it's cold outside, why not go for the peppermint mocha?! it is served skinny at Starbucks for 160 calories in a grande drink.

3. Moscato - I am a sweet wine gal.

4. Riesling - if I am not in the very sweet mood, I ask for a Riesling. it's still sweet but as much as #3.

5. green milk tea with boba - if there's a smoothie boba store around, you will def see me inside. I order this drink or a mango smoothie with boba.

6.   ICE CREAM! any flavor. well not everything. Ice cream shops are my faves. On vacations, after date nights, after a long day at work. I just love ice cream. It's in the blood. My mom always has 2 tubs of ice cream in her freezer.

7. tiramisu - oh my. another yummy goodness. funny story. A chain place in town (you'll probably guess what it is) was so busy on a friday night. i ordered tiramisu and they served it still FROZEN. i told them nicely about the problem. They gave it to me for free.  I brought it home and let it thaw out. i enjoyed it an hour later!

8. cheesecake -  going down the list on Cheesecake factory website: salted caramel cheesecake, hershey's chocolate bar, ultimate red velvet cheesecake, white chocolate raspberry truffle, dulce de leche caramel cheesecake, tiramisu cheesecake, chocolate mousse cheesecake, chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake, caramel pecan turtle cheesecake, peppermint bark cheesecake.

9. chewy, warm chocolate chip  cookies - crunchy cookies vs chewy soft cookies -- i will go for the chewy soft ones. I like a bunch of different cookies but good ole chocolate chip is my fave.

10. my MIL's biko - this is a Filipino dessert called sticky brown rice. it's loaded with sugar. but who counts sugar calories during family gatherings?

what i wore when i went down the toilet

It's vest and layering season.
That's why a lot of folks love autumn. There are so many ways to spice up outfits

I love this vest. it's 5 years old and still very pretty. It's reversible. bright pink on one side ~~ may fave.. and then bright orange on the other side ~~ perfect for the fall season.

one other tidbit - it's a girls XL.

We were invited to a children's party held at a children's museum an hour away. It has a HUGE toilet! I pretended to be a.... you know what......  Isabel was afraid to go down. I don't blame her. Seeing a HUGE toilet for a little girl -- I will be afraid too.

Little D enjoyed the circuits table. He copied the different patterns and circuits to make LED switch, alarm, etc.

Bastian, the Color Run, owl pellets and more {7qt}

1. Slimming down

My Bastian, just like his brother and sister, is slimming down. He used to be in the 25th percentile for his weight. Blame it on genes (good genes, I hope). My children are meant to be on the 3rd-5th percentile on both height and weight. Hubs and I were not blessed to be 5’11, ya know.

6 months well child check:
weight 14 lb 11 oz
length 26 inches

2. BSB
Do not unfollow me for this confession.

My sister and I are (possibly** most likely ***) going back to the same place we saw the BSB for the first time! And we thought that that concert was the last time they perform together as a group. It was the last tour before AJ went into rehab.

Two professionals: a physician and a nurse, both going back to a BSB concert as if it was 14 years ago! We are making signs this time!

3. smart1s

My sis, mom, sis’ mom in law are walking/running the color run in May. I could not come up with a funny team name. I kept racking my brain for something funny, something glam, something pink. But not everybody in my team loves PINK! Especially since we are bringing the older kids (Daniel, Nathaniel and Isabel). So I came up with smart1s. Good enough!

Thanks mom for making us tutu’s for the run. I cannot wait to see mine. I think I am going to wear leggings instead of shorts. Leggings that are worth spraying with cornstarch based powder paint.

4. new (to me) blogs
Here are just a few blogs I have found…. Now following.

Beaninloveblog ~ Been following Sheena on IG. We both have Sebastian’s. And I love what she is doing with her house. I wish I am as crafty as her.

Beautyofthepicturebook ~ Thanks for visiting my blog, Divina! I love picture books. She’s going to be my go-to blog for picture book recs.

5. EEEWWW
My FIL and I took the 3 kids to the museum yesterday. I volunteered us to join the detective agency. I saw “dissection” and “learn” and just volunteered us. As Daniel and Isabel lined up to enter the room, I realized we were going to dissect an owl pellet? Owl pellet? What is that? How bad could it be? I thought they will give us props? Nope, not at the best children’s museum !

So there I was, dissecting a fur/feather hair-ball looking owl pellet! Eewww… My son was into it. I was going to take a picture but forgot…. Good, I did not want to touch my iphone. We found 2 skulls with rodent teeth, jaws, scapula, pelvis, ribs, femur, front legs… eeeewwww….. I used the forceps and sticks. But not my other dissectors. They just went for it and dissected the pellet with their bare hands. The museum staff assured us that the pellets were sterilized (high heat) so they were safe to touch. Then they gave us hand sanitizers to clean our hands. I still went to the bathroom and used soap and water after the dissection. i wish they gave us gloves.

Oh yeah, our assessment: Our owl was one hungry owl. He ate two rodents.

6. Husband speaks

Talking about fitness

Me: Do you think it’s too late to have a fitness goal?
D: Hmmm...
Me: like a handstand?
D: isn’t that hard? A HEAD stand?
Me: No, handstand...
D: hmmm...
Me: ok how about a forearm stand?
D: (still looking doubtful)

Thanks, D, for your confidence in me.

Plaid again {wiws}

I'm into the plaid & flannel craze. At the usual dinner spot after Mass, there's two young(ish) men in plaid and an older(ish) man also in plaid. I'm the fourth one.

We brought the kids to the museum. One would think that running around for a couple of hours will burn off their energy so they will at least be decent at the 5:30p anticipation Mass ~~ well, nope. My mistake.

Mass grades:
D: D/F {listening skills were down the drain} part of my prayer was asking for assistance from Joseph and mother Mary. Give me patience.
I: C {unfortunately her whispers are loud enough for the couple 3 rows behind us to hear}
S: A

We love to sit in front. Out of 40+ rows, the fifth pew is our favorite. So it's (again) my mistake for keeping the children in the sanctuary instead of the cry room.

So anyway, it's Gaudete (rejoice) Sunday. {my plaid shirt has pink} And there's only 10 days left before Christmas. Are you done with your Christmas shopping?

Plaid love ~ Abercrombie | cross body ~ Kate spade | leggings ~ also A&F (old) | hunter boots & hunter fleece socks | cable knit infinity scarf ~ zulily

I love this city {five faves}

5 things i like about Indy

1. Big city, small town feel
The Indianapolis metro area has a million people but it sure does not feel that way. It's pretty easy to get to places. The loop or interstate makes the north side accessible from the south side in 30 minutes. If you drive the loop it will take you an hour from the north side, down the east side then south side then west side back to the north side.

Since it's the Midwest, the people are also friendly.

2. Colts
It's not news that I'm a big colts fan. The last home game against the broncos was pretty awesome. Peyton manning came back to Lucas oil stadium to play for the first time since he was let go. I almost cried when they showed him thanking the crowd. The tribute gave me goosebumps, seeing the highlight passes he made to Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne.

3. Children's museum
Indianapolis has the largest children's museum in the country. There's 5 levels of fun. There's a new plays cape for babies and kids up to 5. The annual haunted house is the current special exhibit.

We got the family membership. My FIL brings the kids often enough that we got our money's worth already.

^^the dinosphere, the boys' favorite^^

^^we've got performers in the house^^

4. Downtown Indianapolis
There's bike trails and paths on major streets especially downtown. There are cultural trails that tourists and Hoosiers who work downtown could enjoy.
If you're at a convention in downtown indy, be sure to visit Historic St. John church. There's restaurants within walking distance and a mall if you'd like to take a break and window shop.

5. Family-friendly
Indianapolis is a good place to raise a family. I like our parish. I like our church. I like our neighborhood. Within a few miles of our house, there's at least two parks that we frequent. This is true for a lot of Midwestern cities. So I guess this is not something special about Indy.

We might not have the best sushi but we have decent Japanese restaurants. My kids like udon noodles while I enjoy my nigiri. We have a few favorite restaurants that we alternate visiting. The best boba in the city can be found here. It's fresh and yummy.

Indy is no Paris, NYC or LA. But it sure is home.

I'm linking up with Hallie for my five faves this week.

7 quick takes vol 9

{{1}}
We are headed to Georgia!
It's my nephew's 3rd birthday and it's gonna be a spider-tastic party!

{{2}}
What are you going to do for an entire weekend hubs?
If the kids and I deserve a weekend of fun out-of-state, my hubby deserves a weekend of "rest" without the THREE (u mean just 2?? or add me?) ahem.... kids.. he usually takes care of. we will miss you Derrick but enjoy this weekend of freedom.

{{3}}
Holiday night at the museum
IUPUI Alumni association hosts an annual holiday night at the children's museum. We have gone twice now. we went when Daniel was 1.5 yo. Last year we missed it because Isabel was only a few weeks old, Derrick did not want to bring Daniel etc etc...

Do u see Daniel?

{{4}}
Did you watch our Catholic TV star Jen Fulwiller last night? What did you think?

If you missed it: now's your chance!

{{5}}
I am slowly going back to a regular work out routine. Having two kids was definitely a wake up call that I cannot possibly do it all... {yeah I truly believed that I can do it all..... Crazy lady!} I felt soooooo guilty when I could not work out. I shoved the guilt away and truly enjoyed time resting with my kids. Now that I am slowly getting my life back and weaning Isabel (not to mention all the sweets and good food this holiday season), I need to watch what I eat and what I do to burn those extra sweet calories.
I am not in the Zumba mood yet (which was my go-to work out regimen). I found these quick 10 minute workouts {{even Nike Training club has them too}} I can slowly build my stamina and strength with these workouts.
How about you what's your favorite workout regimen? Insanity? P90x? Yoga? Running?

{{6}} I found this daily devotional #shereadstruth check the hash tag keyword on Instagram and you'll see inspiring daily journal entries of women all over the world...... The reading plan I'm doing right now is for advent.

{{7}} Picture time!
Another shot of the museum: this time it's the lobby

Pretty huh?

And our hot rides for the winter (?!) yikes. Brrrrrrrrrrr!
This is at the hot wheels exhibit at the museum.
