{7qt} life lately

// Commissions are made if you purchase using my links. Thanks for your support //

1. I blogged! I blogged!
When was the last time I wrote a 7 quick takes post? I do not even remember.
For my first take ~ a pregnancy update.

I am now 31 weeks + 2 days. My prediction is that I won't make it to my due date.
-- first because this is my 7th.
-- second because I have gestational diabetes and  Rose will probably be a big baby.

My sugars are not super out of control. My fasting BG are between 95-101. My postprandial BG 1 hour are all below 125. I am actually losing weight (per my home scale). I am curious what my weight will be next week when I go to the office. I will be 32 weeks then and will start my weekly NSTs.

The fatigue is crazy for this pregnancy. I long to sit or put my feet up. I cannot stand for long periods of time. I don't even carry Nash for a long time either. He sits on my lap and cuddles with me on the couch. He loves to bounce off of my belly. It is not a comfortable game.

2. Are you done with your Christmas shopping?
I am actually >50% done. Because of the pandemic and lack of traveling and extra curricular activities with the children, I prepped their list waaaaay before Thanksgiving. I shopped quite a bit during  Thanksgiving week. It was insane seeing Black Friday deals the day before Thanksgiving. I did most of the shopping last week than what I did on Cyber Monday.

Some notable sales ~ Old Navy currently has 25% off sale. (It was 50% off last week!)
Target ~ where I bought of the children's toys ~ if you're part of the Target circle, there's 10% off on your online order. I got toys that were still full priced. I have been stalking them since Thanksgiving week and they did not put them on sale. Not even during Cyber Monday. When I saw the extra 10% off, I used it right away!

I am sponsoring a book for the twelve days of Christmas Book giveaway that's running live right now on Instagram. Be sure to enter and win all those great books.

4. We survived the first week of e-Learning.
I say WE, but truly, it's Derrick and the children survived it! Props for my husband who is now sharing the library (his work area) with our first grader. I give props to the teachers as well for adjusting to this new way of teaching. My third grader thrives with the schedule. She said it is less stressful this second go-round compared to the quarantine months when I was their teacher.

5. Prayer request
-- Baby Agnes as she recovers from spinal surgery
-- Beckett and his family
-- Britt (Agnes' mom) who will start chemo soon
-- Safety and protection against covid.
-- Frontline workers, those in the ICUs, ERs, urgent cares.

6. Work
We are transitioning to more virtual visits again. It is not quite the same as the shutdown of clinics back in April and May. But most of my returns will be virtual appts to decrease foot traffic in clinic.

I am trying my best to be as careful as I can be at work.
I go back to my office where I am alone to eat my lunch.
I don't drink my water in the work area where other docs and learners are present.
I wear eye protection which is recommended but not mandatory in our health system (unless treating covid pts of course).
I was advised by my OB to exclude myself from direct patient care with someone with covid. But if I have to, she said I should  do the full she-bang and garb up, suit up, N95 masks, face shield and all.

Being a neurologist and a consultant, I am not really at the front lines.  Our team does not have a primary service at the hospital either. So when I cover a weekend at 34 weeks, if there's a covid pending or covid positive patient, I can do a provider-to-provider consult.

7. Never in a million years would I see myself selling makeup. But here I am!
I became a BC consultant this week. I was introduced to Beautycounter by my friend, Stephanie. She sent me an eye shadow palette that I fell in love with. The quality of the pigments is amazing! Every time  there's a sale, I grab a few more items.

Why did I do it?
First the discount! I won't lie. I love a good discount as a consultant. I already like the brand and its mission. The products are of good quality (and clean!)
Second Stephanie. She's a great mentor.
Third I am already sharing BC on my ig account. Stephanie was right.  I might as well share my OWN link.

From the November sale, I got the following items (and I cannot wait to share them with y'all):
-skin twin concealer
-conditioning lipstick
-luminous lids cream

I have already shared:
Golden hour all-in-one palette - here's the IG Reels
Eye shadow palette STATEMENT - another IG reel
Eye shadow palette CLASSIC - IGTV

let's lighten things up

 A little stir crazy here.
There is no routine.
There is no norm.

1.  Since stores have closed, there's lots of online sales going on. Like Old Navy with its 50% off. We may not be able to celebrate Easter Sunday with our parish. But we will dress up and celebrate at home.

My picks are below.
My dress
Girls Dress
Boys polo shirt
Baby's

2.  We gave in  to Disney+
I signed up today. We are a newbie Disney+ family.
We are on our second movie. Aladdin first... Now the Lion King.  My husband said that with Frozen II on repeat, we will get our money's worth for the subscription. Any suggestions for movie or show marathons? Do you have Disney+? What is your favorite thing about it?

3. My favorite Tarte concealer is on sale today. Only $13.50. That's an awesome price. It's great to stock up now.  Here are my faves for the next few days of the 21 days of beauty sale.

Lipstick Queen 3/24 Tuesday
Clinique Blended Face Powder and brush 3/26 Thursday
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair moisturizer 3/27 Friday
Clinique Mascara 3/30 Monday

4.  I have been doing well with anxiety but being cooped up inside the house with a change in our routine got me all stir-crazy.
Ways I would like to focus more on God and others and let go of the worrying.
~livestream Mass
~doodle (Scripture...  and also with Mo Willems and my kids)
~listen to my audiobooks.
~ listen to podcasts for continuing medical education (not the ongoing pandemic, but neurology)
~use my big camera more.
~pray
~ good ole exercise. I haven't been moving much being stuck inside the home and doing school from home.

5. Speaking of audiobooks, I finished my first Flavia de Luce mystery. I started with the second book since the first one is unavailable from our public library. I borrowed the first Maisie Dobbs mystery. I could not get into it as much as Flavia. I am going to keep giving it a try.

We have Stuart Little and Matilda pending. Matilda is read by Kate Winslet. I am very excited!

6. If you are in the Indy area, consider donating your stash of N95 if you have any! If you know of construction companies, painters etc who may have N95 respirators, please send them my way disiscloset(at)gmail(dot)com. Let's protect our healthcare workers.

7. Sending y'all virtual hugs since gathering right now is illegal.
I saw this on my sister's stories. Thanks Clay Bennett of Chattanooga Press for this funny cartoon.
These next two weeks are critical. Please stay home. Let's change the rise of cases from exponential growth to linear.

linky faves of both splurges and savings

// Affiliate links are used //

1. Obsessed with the newly-launched Rachel Parcell May Collection! I am a NordyClub member so I got to shop Monday at 1pm EST before the items hit the stores the following day.

I am supposed to receive my items tomorrow. I love the smocked dress that I got it in two colors - the white and the blue.
I also ordered the mixed eyelet dress in red. That color is SOLD OUT! But the white one is still available. It's 100% cotton.

I stayed away from the thin chiffon and poly fabrics because of previous reviews. If I am paying that much for a dress, I want it to have great quality.

2. These Birdies starling flats are worth their price. When I just want to have a chill-comfy clinic day (though my fave wedges are still comfy) I wear my birdies slippers. They were my walk-around Chicago downtown shoes Easter weekend.  They are pricey, so wait till you get some nordstrom notes to cut the price.

3.  I am usually a bold-red lipstick gal. If I want just a light pink sheen lipstick ~ I have been using this Frog Prince Lipstick Queen. Starts "invisible" not green but then looks more like lip shine on my natural lip color. Try it.

4.  I am all about dresses and jumpsuits this spring. H&M did it with these picks:  long satin dress in a pretty apricot color;  powder pink satin jumpsuit (can I pull this off postpartum???); I am feeling free people vibes with this white cotton dress. I am back to the 90s here wearing floral dresses -- fashion keeps recycling itself.

5. If you follow me on instagram, I have been upping my sunglasses game by using a different pair everyday. I found these Gucci look-a-likes for definitely a fraction of the Gucci price.
YSL look-a-likes -- the splurge ones here
Chanel look-a-likes

skincare routine {sqt}

Items are listed the order I apply products morning and/or night.  This article is so helpful!
1. cleansing oil
This is perfect for make-up removal. I used moist towelettes before. Then I read somewhere that the exfoliating towels I have can be abrasive. I started a search for a cleanser. I found a foaming wash that I also use ~ mainly in the mornings or when I am in the shower. But for make-up removal, this cleansing oil is ophthalmology tested (but still avoid putting directly to your eyes) and it is for all-skin-types.

2. toner
Confession: I was a water-only wash my face kind of girl for years! I used a few cleansers on and off but did not like the feeling of "dryness" after cleaning my face. I blamed the cleansers!
When in fact, what I am missing on my regimen is a toner! duh.
Toner is  great removing the last bits of dirt and makeup that the cleansers missed. A hydrating toner is helpful replenishing the moisture back on your face and helps balance the pH on your skin. Our skin is acidic. The soap and cleansers are alkaline. A toner can help balance the pH quickly.

3. eye cream
There are lots of eye creams out there. I used olay for awhile. Once I finished my tub, I searched for other creams that have amazing reviews. I came across this product and so far loving it. My concealer applies smoothly over this eye cream.

4. serum
This is the newest thing on skincare. What are serums? These are essentially concentrated shots of nutrients applied to your skin. The Ordinary is a brand recommended by a friend. I saw the price and good reviews and knew I just had to try. Serums can get quite pricey. So if you're unsure, try samples first or start with this brand...

I am trying the Niacinamide serum... I will let you know if worth using/buying.
I am currently skipping serums and/or moisturizers with retinoids  because they are teratogenic = harmful during pregnancy.

5. treatments
For acne ~ I use benzoyl peroxide spot-on-treatment.
The niacinamde serum I mentioned above can be used as "treatment"for dark spots or blemishes.

6. moisturizer
I am skipping my moisturizer with SPF because it's winter. I finally gave in and bought this Olay product that has rave reviews. Better start now on my mid-30s rather than wait for the wrinkles right? Since this is pricey - wait for deals. Like when Olay had buy 1 get one 40% off on ulta.

7. overnight mask
Here are a couple  of masks/moisturizers that I alternate every other night.
The Ginger Leaf and Hibiscus Firming Mask is pricey. But I used my nordstrom notes to purchase this. Don't let the small tub fool you. The mask is packed in there. Just a little dab of your fingers can cover 1/3 of your face. This one is going to last me for awhile. Disclaimer: The smell is strong. Hubs calls it my old-lady cream. Whatev. I think it smells like a nivea cream which I used for years.

Clinique overnight mask
This one is not as thick but sure packs lots of moisture. I feel my face still soft and"silky" the following morning. It is scent-free.

What is your skin care routine? What are your tried and tested products?

seven valentine's day gift ideas for the man in your life

I am an "amazon primer." hmmm... what I meant was, I am one of those people keeping amazon the #1 online retailer. If you're like me and would rather shop online and wait for that gift to arrive at your doorstep, let me show you my seven picks for the man (or men --  add brother, father, grandfather, nephew, friend here) in your life.
{Affiliate links are used!}

1. Fun activity book meant to be completed together

2. A crockpot that's just his for that chili cook-off he's going to win (finally!)

3. I love seeing men with their fun socks on. How about this 6-pack for only $10.

4. If your man is like my husband who does not care for those $100 brand-name sunglasses because he says: as long as it achieves its purpose, whether it's only $17 and no-brand name - it's all good for him. Get him this classic aviators for a fraction of a RayBan.

5. A new fragrance for your beau.

Description:
The scent features top notes of bergamot, cardamom, green mandarin and ginger. Heart notes of cedar wood, nutmeg are softened with wild rose. Effortless notes of grey musk and Tonka smooth out the base.

6. You cannot go wrong with some Nike's.

7. A tie. It's not romantic but it's going to be used if your boo has to dress up every now and then.

If you get something from this list (or not) please let me know on the comments section.
