During the school meeting, our pastor made a statement about one of the our church and school mission.
To help create holy and healthy children. He made a point that the goal is not happiness. Because if our only goal is happiness, we won't be successful attaining it. By striving for holiness, we want to follow Jesus and happiness is the fruit of holiness.
How appropriate as well that the first reading this Sunday is from Peter's testimony on Acts.
"There is no salvation through anyone else,
nor is there any other name under heaven
given to the human race by which we are to be saved."
I am at fault when I put the Lord to the side and seek "happiness" through things that pass by.... things of this world. Only Jesus can fill that hole that we all long for.
Take home points from this week's Gospel and homily:
Jesus as the Good Shepherd knows his sheep by name. He knows me. He knows you. How amazing. So to know him (not just his name) to really know him, I would like to spend more time with him. The busyness of life takes us away from the most important thing -- which is placing him in the center of our lives. And from that center, from that foundation, then "everything we do is in union with him.**"
My prayer~
Dear Jesus, May I place you this week and always as the center of my life. May I always seek you and know and love you. Amen.
