a letter

There are lots of regrets.

Wish I was there during your hospitalization

Should have I done more? When you were still alive? when you were still hospitalized?

Wish I was there when you finally made it back home

Wish I called you when you said you were admitted.

Wish I examined you and maybe I could have caught and diagnosed your symptoms.

I should have tried harder. I should have called you more instead of relying on my posts as updates.

There are lots of memories.
I scroll on your feed and see that you always shared and posted about our children. You were so proud of them. You treated them as your very own grandchildren. You were never just the sister of their Lola. You claimed the name, Lola Mary Ann, with so much pride.
You believed in me and were so proud of my achievements.
You were consulting with me, asking me questions about meds, what vaccines to take, even asking questions about your rheum and SLE meds.  You did not care that I was just a pediatric neurologist. I am the best doctor in your eyes.
You gave the best hugs. You showed me and Lady that it is ok to cry and show emotions.
I admit that I took this for granted but you were always a giver. You served and showed kindness to us and to others.
You changed my diapers. You rocked me to sleep. You fed me so many bottles and baby food. You cooked the best meals. You braided my hair. You cheered me on and you were there in the audience no matter what event. You went to lots of parent-teacher meetings. You stayed up helping me finish lots of grade school projects.
You made sure Lady and I had the prettiest dresses and shoes.
You arranged and organized everything. Lady and I were very spoiled. We had to grow up fast once we moved to the US because again, I took this for granted but you and Mama Consing did everything for me and Lady.
You may have been the youngest child but you sure grew up fast  since at 23 years old you had a preschooler and a toddler to take care of. From that age, you watched me and Lady grow until we moved when you were 35 years old.  I did not think that until Lady pointed out that you spent your 20s and 30s taking care of us. You could have traveled, gone back to school, done something else instead of  being our mom.
But we are forever grateful you did not do that. Having you as one of our moms was a gift. We had you as our teacher. Once we were grown up and you pursued your Education degree, we knew it was definitely your calling. You were patient with us. Your pupils were blessed to have had you as their teacher.

Mama, I pray you are hugging your four babies right now, loving and kissing them. I pray you see Jesus' face because that is the ultimate reward for all the love you gave me, Lady, Mama and Lolo and JC. I am glad you were able to meet four of my babies. Isabel misses you. She has fond memories of you and her big trip.  I will I could tell you all this in person. We love you, Mama.

Mary Ann L. Calilung, 55, of Natividad Guagua Pampanga went to heaven on February 21, 2021 due to complications of stroke. She was surrounded by family and died peacefully in her sleep. She held on long enough to come back home.

let's lighten things up

 A little stir crazy here.
There is no routine.
There is no norm.

1.  Since stores have closed, there's lots of online sales going on. Like Old Navy with its 50% off. We may not be able to celebrate Easter Sunday with our parish. But we will dress up and celebrate at home.

My picks are below.
My dress
Girls Dress
Boys polo shirt
Baby's

2.  We gave in  to Disney+
I signed up today. We are a newbie Disney+ family.
We are on our second movie. Aladdin first... Now the Lion King.  My husband said that with Frozen II on repeat, we will get our money's worth for the subscription. Any suggestions for movie or show marathons? Do you have Disney+? What is your favorite thing about it?

3. My favorite Tarte concealer is on sale today. Only $13.50. That's an awesome price. It's great to stock up now.  Here are my faves for the next few days of the 21 days of beauty sale.

Lipstick Queen 3/24 Tuesday
Clinique Blended Face Powder and brush 3/26 Thursday
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair moisturizer 3/27 Friday
Clinique Mascara 3/30 Monday

4.  I have been doing well with anxiety but being cooped up inside the house with a change in our routine got me all stir-crazy.
Ways I would like to focus more on God and others and let go of the worrying.
~livestream Mass
~doodle (Scripture...  and also with Mo Willems and my kids)
~listen to my audiobooks.
~ listen to podcasts for continuing medical education (not the ongoing pandemic, but neurology)
~use my big camera more.
~pray
~ good ole exercise. I haven't been moving much being stuck inside the home and doing school from home.

5. Speaking of audiobooks, I finished my first Flavia de Luce mystery. I started with the second book since the first one is unavailable from our public library. I borrowed the first Maisie Dobbs mystery. I could not get into it as much as Flavia. I am going to keep giving it a try.

We have Stuart Little and Matilda pending. Matilda is read by Kate Winslet. I am very excited!

6. If you are in the Indy area, consider donating your stash of N95 if you have any! If you know of construction companies, painters etc who may have N95 respirators, please send them my way disiscloset(at)gmail(dot)com. Let's protect our healthcare workers.

7. Sending y'all virtual hugs since gathering right now is illegal.
I saw this on my sister's stories. Thanks Clay Bennett of Chattanooga Press for this funny cartoon.
These next two weeks are critical. Please stay home. Let's change the rise of cases from exponential growth to linear.

thoughts of a headmistress and an MD

It's day three of homeschooling.
What a contrast of last week and this week. I had long days as the neurology consult doc week ending Friday the 13th. This week,  I am running the Delima academy. I am the headmistress of our "boarding school." At least I like to think I am the headmistress. Sounds British and foreign...

Fortunately, I have amazing colleagues that help each other. Nonurgent visits have been cancelled. Not all physicians need to show up for 1-2 patients. We consolidated by having a "clinic doctor" to cover the day.  Therefore this week, I am able to focus on the children's schoolwork. I am not sure how long we will have e-learning/quaran-teaching so I am truly invested in my children's education. Everything is still up in the air. Will they lengthen the schoolyear till June? Will they just let us homeschool then test then see if they are ok moving to the next grade>

Today, as a physician, I answered patient messages.  I also screened my next week's schedule and sent messages:
reschedule nonurgent
vs
urgent.

Having to juggle work and then homeschool was not easy. Understatement huh? All I did was send messages. I did not call patients. It was not doable in a crazy, chaotic,  loud home.

I definitely feel for y'all who have to work full-time, attend virtual meetings and phone calls, care for children, teach them. I had several moments that I raised my voice and spoke in a non-loving way today. A couple of times, I went to the dining room (Derrick's makeshift office) to vent my frustrations.

I have been posting stories and videos of our homeschooling journey. I want to remember the gift of staying at home, pausing and being with the children. I share our schedule here not to make people feel unequipped because we have it altogether. It's the opposite! This schedule has been thrown off 30 mins to 1 hour and we have only been doing this x 3 days.  I am also embarrassed to say that we have skipped exercise. The children went outside to play. I should just make that my yoga/stretching/barre/ANY movement is good time.

Let's end this blog post with a thankful list:
Colleagues who take initiative and plan the week.
Colleagues who cover for me so I can focus on the children's work.
Husband who helps out despite having to work from home.
Internet so we can facetime, zoom, skype, FB chat with family and friends.
Pens that made my lesson plan nice and pretty.
Doodling with Mo Willems. Now I can draw pigeons, Gerald's face and Piggie's face.
Lesson plans and worksheets from schoolteachers. I just implement what they already prepared.
Healthcare workers in the front lines
Wine

daniel is ten

Thankful that he let me take a photo of him next to these blocks.  Pretty soon, I will blink and he is going to ask me not talk about him on the blog.

I took Nash's one month photos today and then asked him to do the same thing. I did not hear any complaints.
