grammar police {wiws}

I dressed up as a teacher/librarian/student for Church so might as well comment on St. Pauls' grammar? This is the longest runon sentence ever! ** I added the verse below.

Maybe it's the clogs that pulled the outfit together?
Maybe?

If not for work, I would not be wearing my clogs. I mean business when I wear them. I can easily have 10,000 steps throughout the hospital while doing consults.

I wear them when I run errands too. Easy slipon- slip off.

Excerpt from our pastor's homily.
Are we mired down in the things of the past, or in the things that are passing away? Do we give too much importance to things which will not matter in eternity? Do we truly seek something new, to become fully what God created us to be, and what He calls us to realize in Christ? What do we seek from God? Is it selfish? How do we prepare ourselves mentally for prayer, especially for Mass? Are we attentive, reaching out to the things of God? Or do we allow our minds to dwell on lesser things? What about our hearts? When we approach God are we seeking with all our heart to become a Saint? Even our bodies must be quieted before we can approach God with a recollected spirit.
Fr. G.R.

** For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having any righteousness of my own based on the law but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God, depending on faith to know him and the power of his resurrection and [the] sharing of his sufferings by being conformed to his death, if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

  2. That sweater is adorable! I saw a lot of pink at Mass today, actually.

    As a literal card-carrying member of the Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar, I have to say that St. Paul's sentence is *super long*, but it's not a run-on. It's complicated to break down, but the grammar is okay.

    1. You are right! A run-on sentence does not have the right punctuation. But St. Paul got it right! I've read this verse several times and heard it read by a lot of awesome lectors. It was only this weekend that I was able to follow with the correct way of breaking it down. Guess who read it??? Retired school principal :) she's probably a card-carrying member too?? Lol.

      Thanks for visiting. I'm glad I learned something.

    2. It is *amazing* the way that good lectoring can open up a reading. I try to read Scripture out loud to myself as much as possible for that very reason: not because I'm good at it, but because that's the way we're supposed to experience it. People heard the Word for centuries before widespread literacy and affordable printed books, and they all came to faith. Why shouldn't we treat it the same way? Those readings from St. Paul are like the lectoring Olympics. Sometimes the whole reading is just 2 sentences!

    3. That's a great idea! That's why Scripture that I've memorized and kept in my heart then spoken out loud is very powerful!
      Thanks so much!
