defend life

Happy feastday to one of my fave saints, JP II. He was the first and only one I have met/seen in person who is now canonized as saint.   Seeing him on his Wednesday Papal Audience in 2005 was highlight of my spiritual journey.

I have wondered why people cry when they see the pope.
But when I saw him,  I understood why.
I saw him enter in his wheelchair, I had goosebumps... instantly, I was teary-eyed.
Such a holy man... Just his presence gave me a small glimpse of the holiness in heaven.

Pope JP II's farewell ceremony speech from 1987 is the inspiration for this shirt. If there is a Catholic issue I am big at supporting, it's the pro-life movement.

Every human person - no matter how vulnerable or helpless, no matter how young or how old, no matter how healthy, handicapped or sick, no matter how useful or productive for society - is a being of inestimable worth created in the image and likeness of God. This is the dignity of America, the reason she exists, the condition for her survival-yes, the ultimate test of her greatness: to respect every human person, especially the weakest and most defenceless ones, those as yet unborn.

~excerpt,  Apostolic Journey to the USA and Canada, Farewell Ceremony. Address of his Holiness John Paul II, September 19, 1987

  1. I love the shirt! We just saw Pope Francis and while I am fairly confident I would have bawled seeing JP2 I did not think I would cry in Philly - and yet I fought tears as he rode right past us in the pope mobile. It's a powerful thing seeing the pope!
