preparing the way {wiws}

Happy Second Sunday of Advent!
How are you preparing the way of the Lord? Thanks to the wonderful ladies of blessedisshe -- I have been on an advent journey preparing my heart for Jesus.

This was the second Sunday in a row that I went to Mass alone. Derrick has been serving as an usher on Saturdays. I was on-call last weekend so I did not want to go when I was "tied to my pager." This weekend, I was sluggish all day Saturday and (embarrassing enough) still was not ready (in my heart and physically) to go to Vigil Mass. Derrick granted my wish and I went by myself tonight.

For my homily notes, instead of writing in my advent journal, thought I'd type it out here and share.
When we decorate and prepare for Christmas, let us be reminded of the following:
  • Christmas lights ~ in the midst of darkness, our Savior comes into our lives as the light of the world.
  • Evergreen ~ Jesus is ever-living.
  • Christmas tree ~ Jesus' sacrifice, his death on a tree (the cross).
  • Ornaments ~ may we bear fruit, good fruit.
  • Bells - may our lives be a beautiful noise proclaiming God's love and mercy to those around us.
  • Wreath ~ life with Christ has no end. By our baptism, then, we were buried with him and shared his death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from death by glorious power of the Father, so also we might live a new life. Romans 6:4
  • Food ~ Jesus is the bread of life present in the Eucharist. He is born and placed in a manger, a feeding trough. He gives us his body, blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist.

Glad I was able to get out of the house and "dress up." believe me, I donned this outfit for whopping 2 hours and 5 minutes (because I stopped by CVS after church). The rest of the day, I was wearing this
