two-in-one {7qt & wiws}

I strike again... Two-in-one post. (just like here)

I started typing this post last Friday... and voila, it's Sunday and not done.

1. what she wore
She might look like she's part of a bridal party. But she's not.

2. conversation with an unnamed family member
Me: oh the wiggles are coming to Indy
unnamed person: who? the wiggle, wiggle, wiggle (rapping, singing to the tune of my most hated song currently)
Me: noooooo! that's a Jason DeRulo song.
unnamed person: oh

3. conversation with my eldest
Daniel: momma, why are you wearing a giraffe?
Me: oh my shirt? It's a leopard.
Daniel: is it a real leopard?
Me: no baby, just a print.
Daniel: how come it's not a real leopard?
Me: this is made of a different material. (It's polyester!)
Daniel: why not real leopard?
Me: I don't really want to wear an animal. In the old, old days when people lived in caves, they used the animal fur as a coat. Now we have coats not made of animal fur.
Daniel: that's what I'm "calling" about. (as he rolls his eyes)

4. if you really must see what i wore Sunday (errr... anticipation Mass Saturday)
here ya go.

desperate times call for desperate lighting
Good news, you've seen the top and the skirt before. Just look above!

5. work it...
For people who do not believe that I can wear something other than pink, I present you -- the neutral me.

Dress ~ H&M, bought as a maternity dress! (I am not preggers!)
Floral Peep Toes ~ bandolino
Louis Vuitton
Shell necklace ~ from my grandma

I tried.. I really did. I just cannot NOT have something POP at you. So I wore my floral peep-toes.

6. "stop kissing them on the lips"
The route of infection.
Daniel --> Me --> Sebastian and Derrick

I am the culprit. I kiss the babies on the lips. So I get it from Daniel. In turn, I kiss Bastian and Derrick. So they get sick too. hmmmm... amazing enough, Isabel is still holding strong without a drip of nasal secretion or raspy cough.

7. what I am sharing

you've probably seen it...
funny.

A few questions for you:
~share what you wore this 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time
~Do you kiss your babies on the lips, cheek, forehead?
~Are you singing the song above, now the children are back in school?
~What Top40 hit song you dislike right now?

we are called to serve

It's been 10 years when we became friends. And now we are all done with residency/fellowship and ready to continue our calling.

I decided to stay and practice where I trained. My vocation is to clothe the naked and feed the hungry (aka my three piglets) and also work as a child neurologist in town.

My friends, on the other hand, accepted God's plan for them.
Follow me and take up your cross and move across the country.
Follow me and proclaim the Good news and move to another continent.

I want to highlight my friend (we will keep her name off the blog to protect her privacy). I wish I have her courage and strength. She is called to serve in Africa. It is her lifelong dream. She is leaving for the medical missions this fall. Please keep her in your prayers.

If you are compelled to contribute to my friend's cause, please drop me an email. my email address is: sarahisisdelima{at}alumni{dot}iu{dot}edu and I can give you more information that way. She has her info on the mission's website. I just want to keep it off of the blog to keep her safe.

Mission work requires your support, prayers and donations.
Thank you!

kids play + pink {wiws}

I love seeing my children play nicely together. Big brother Daniel was showing Isabel and Sebastian how his T-rex-turned-truck toy works. Although it's just parallel play for Bastian, he enjoys watching and being there with his older siblings.

It was a relaxing Sunday for the family. After going to two parties (picnic and pool party) Saturday... and then the Colts game that night. whew... we were all tired. I could not get up in-time for the 10:30a Mass. well, I did wake up in-time. But Derrick said, don't worry about rushing to get out of the house. Hence, going to Mass at 5:30p,which at SJOA is a bad idea. We do not have AC so it was humid and warm inside the church. Would it have made a difference if we went that morning? Maybe, maybe not. The children... were... cranky...

Thanks for hubs for picking out the children's outfits to compliment mine.

 Dress ~ thrifted // pearl necklace ~ Kaitlin's igshop // wedges ~ worn 3 Sundays in a row; zulily

.... not flattering....

awkward...all kinds of awkward here....

My instructions to Derrick was, take my photo as I'm walking.
Proof that he and I both  need practice as a photographer and as a model, respectively.

this week's takes

Misc things of what I am thinking and what's going on this week en mi casa.

1. such downer news all over NPR, nightlynews, social media... And my name is plastered everywhere... seriously. The good thing, I was born first. And I am named after the Egyptian Goddess (just in case you are wondering)

2. now that that is out of the way (I just have to get it out of my chest), we can celebrate life and God's goodness. I am a cup-half-full person ~ most of the time. I still believe in God's plan amidst all this crisis in the middle east.

Did you see my post about an angel who paid the tab for the annual mom-son date? well, don't feel left out and read it here.

3. I have a  kindergartener, people.
Mr. squinty eyes woke up without a fuss, followed directions and survived first day of kindergarten. We are so proud of him. It's the same school as his TK last year, so he was not stressed out or anxious during drop off. He actually ignored my kiss and goodbye once he joined his class at the gym.

4. I have 5 weeks before the boards.... eeeekkkkk.

prayer request please:
that I will calm down and focus on reviewing.

5. #shereadstruth
Thanks to Jenna of eatliverun, I was introduced to this devotional website. We are reading the Letter to the Hebrews right now. What I am excited about is the upcoming study on Hosea. Will you join us?

6. I finally found the best Thai Coconut Curry Soup after trying a few different recipes. Here's my take:
Boil 4 cups of Low Na chicken broth/stock with 2 tbsp of fish sauce and 1 tbsp light brown sugar. Cover, set aside.
In a dutch oven, brown 1 lb chicken breast. Transfer once browned.
In the same dutch oven, add 2 tsp of red curry paste (I used the one from the jar) and 2 tbsp of grated ginger. Cook just till fragrant ~1 minute.
Add warm broth to the dutch pan, add chicken and bokchoy stalks. Cook for ~10 minutes until chicken is fully cooked.
Take the chicken out again and shred it. Add 2 cups of light coconut milk and mushrooms in the dutch oven (I used portobello, but you can use white). Cook for 5 minutes.
Add the chicken and bokchoy leaves once simmered. Squeeze about 1/2 to 3/4 lime (depending on the taste) and add salt and pepper too if you like. I omitted the salt at the end. The fish sauce was salty enough for me. Garnish with cilantro.

^I did not get bokchoy or cilantro at the store (boo!) so that's missing... obviously.

7.  a post is not complete without an outfit take and a cute baby in my arms

I missed posting my wiws outfit.
Top ~ old, Express
Skirt~ even older, Express
Wedges~ not old, zulily
Necklace~ Sacred Heart of Jesus
Baby~ almost 1 year old (yay!)

free breakfast

I know these things happen to other people.
But certainly, not with me....

or so I thought.

A nice customer paid for your food. He said, "I don't know them, but I would like to pay for their food." , said the server.

What?!?!? really... I thought.

I wish Daniel and I can thank that nice gentleman who paid for our breakfast. I kept thinking that he must have used his retirement savings... but that was not the point of his good act. He did not wait for us to make eye contact and thank him. Instead he did it behind the scenes. He did his good act and he left.

His good deed spoke volumes. A lot of times, I perform my chores or responsibilities and I want acknowledgment. I made dinner, I changed diapers, I cleaned the kitchen.... and I want to be acknowledged.

From that nice angel who "paid it forward", I learned something I have known all along. In everything I do, I serve Jesus. I don't serve myself. If I perform my good acts to "make myself feel better," then I am totally missing the point.

I have missed the point quite a few times in my life.
I am just glad God gives me angels like that man, to steer me to the right path.

Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you...*

Daniel -- so happy for the mom-son-date before school starts.

mommy sandals

I'm not talking about my clogs or ballet flats or my sperry's. I'm always on the look out for non-mommy heels that will give me height but still mommy-of-three friendly.

I love wedge pumps, wedge sandals and espadrilles. They have the height... And the platform heel spread the sole pressure much evenly than stilettos.

Let me introduce my new fave mommy sandals.

I love this pair. Got it from zulily. So yes it was a gamble. Since you can't just try it on and then return it.

So when I slipped my feet in and tried these babies -- it felt like Cinderella sliding her slender foot in the glass slipper. They were perfect!

    blue + jakarta wedge {wiws}

I got this dress last summer {!!!} I was still pregnant with Sebastian. Call me crazy, but I was imagining all the dresses I can wear postpartum.

Dresses are tricky postpartum especially since I'm nursing. And the inevitable increase in cup size pushed my plan to wear this last year, maybe with a Cardi and leggings.

I waited and waited to loose some of the chest and belly postpartum fat but the weighing scale is not cooperating. (I blame summer cravings, aka ice cream)

So yesterday, I tried it on. It's a lil tight but hey, I can make it work! I wore a short sleeve Cardi to make it more appropriate for church.

I love the revealing back ~ again not so appropriate for church or work. But I can see myself covering my back with a flowy Cardi and white coat. Then add leggings for extra coverage.

I love my new pair of wedge sandals. So so cute! And I love the extra 5 inches it gave me.

    talking about boards, Chicago and playing the piano {7QT}

Joining Jen for 7 quick takes Friday (thursday in my case)...

I have been MIA from blogging.... and I can fill up these quick takes for reasons why.

    1. One might say, you're a part-timer: life should be "easy". Well, yes and no. I love being home with my babies. But I am still finding the work and life balance. I am slow finishing my work (ie re-reading EEGs, making sure I did not miss a seizure or spike) and end up bringing work home. That has to change though.

    2. Countdown for the boards
Set your timers. I have less than 8 weeks reviewing for my initial certification in Child Neurology. Reviewing just got super-serious. Bring out the highlighters, different colored pens and flash cards.

    3. Board review course
Last week, hubs, the littlest one and I drove to Chicago for a 5-day board review course. I am so glad I went. It was an intense five days. I was in the conference room from 7:30a to 7p. It was a good reward to spend time with my husband and Sebastian after a long day of class.

Derrick did get bored of his mini vacation away from the older two... but he got a lot of stuff done with his car, shopping at IKEA, work clothes shopping at the new fashion outlet that is literally 15 minute walk from the hotel!

I broke down and went shopping Saturday night and spent money at Saks! now, Derrick has to take me out to dinner dates so I can wear my new dresses :)

~~ Not from the fashion outlet. Taken at the Louis store at magnificent mile.

    4. When in Chicago....
We went to the Filipino restaurant in the north side of Chicago. It's not a fancy restaurant. Entrees are fairly priced. But it's what you call a "hole in the wall" place -- but hey they serve really good food.

I ordered entrees that I don't usually make at home.

    Inihaw na baboy (pork BBQ)

    Inihaw na pusit (grilled squid)

not shown: karekare (my order), calamari (appetizer), tocino and pancit bihon (Derrick's order) we ordered enough for 10 people!

    5. Playing again
I have been playing my piano almost every night. I was sad when I left for Chicago because that meant I could not play for 6 days.
    what's the motivation?
While praying after Communion one Sunday, I realized I want to offer my talent to God and to the church. So I volunteered to play at Mass sometime. This came out of nowhere and from someone (me) who has not played in public for 14 years! I have played occasionally at home but not for a general audience since highschool.

yes, I am crazy. I need lots of practice.
This desire, I can only attribute as prompting of the Holy Spirit... Is there any other crazy reason?

Instead of freaking out or getting anxious preparing and practicing, playing the piano is actually pretty calming. So some nights, instead of blogging, I take out Bach or Beethoven and play a little....

I am not there yet (at all!) to play for the entire Mass. I need lots and lots of practice and courage. I will be praying: Come Holy Spirit and calm my nerves! I will start out playing a communion hymn or the offertory -- baby steps.

    6. What? School started already?
Not for my son -- not yet.
Some of my patients are already back in school since August 1st. I am a slacker mom. I still need to order Daniel's school uniforms. Thank goodness, he can still wear his shorts and shirts from last year (he did not really grow that much!) I am still waiting for the Old Navy sale. They had pretty good deals last year for school uniforms. I have rewards that I can use! (fist bump)

    7. Daniel and Isabel
I was just gone for 5 days and came home to:
    ~~~Daniel speaking in full sentences, telling me stories, conversing like an adult. He has done that before anyway but it's amazing how distance helps me realize how wonderful my children are! I see him in a different light.
    ~~~Isabel is loosing her baby face. She is growing way too fast! I showed her a video of the Indy Hula group. She loves it and wants to do it. I will definitely sign us up!

    so that's it...
    Happy day to all!!!
